Default Is Bolt Browser a real browser or a Terminal

Why does Bolt access their servers (xxx.boltbrowser.com) when I try to access a page. Is the the browser itself just a terminal with the heavy lifting happening on bolt browser servers. I'm concerned about privacy and security.
