Arrow App: BB_Manager (BB <=> PC) - 12-12-2005, 04:32 PM

Hi,

I created a small application to automate some operations with BB:

- load .cod file
- convertion & load .jar files (jad file created by application if it's not found)
- delete files from BB
- copy files from BB to PC (.jar files)
- use BB password to connect to device
- support USB/COM connected devices

Thank Mark Rejhon for his "HOWTO: Manually convert .jad/.jar to .cod if you cant do OTA" guide. The application is not a perfect but keep me a lot of time. It's just GUI for JavaLoader/RAPC BB utilities. I've tested it on my BB7290 (USB) and my friend tested it with some old COM-port connected BB.

There is a link : BB_Manager (ZIP 6Mb)

The application is written in VB.NET so it requires Framework 2.0 to work.

HOWTO "install":

- unzip files to any folder
- link you BB
- run BB_Manager.exe (at first run you will receive message regarding registry key just ignore it, if application is closed after that - rerun it)

Click on right mouse button will rise a menu for Copy/Delete/etc. operations.

Application creates keys in registry : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BB_Manager

Any comments are welcome

This link leads to a site displayed in what appears to be Russian, with no mentionn of BB Manager, I'd be a little worried. about this unless it is rectified.

The link is fixed. It's pointed to Russian file share server. You will see "BB_Manager.zip" line and under it something like ">>> óËÁÞÁÔØ / Download <<<" - it's a link .

Downloaded it and tested it, on a 7250 and it worked flawlessly. You do need to come up with a help file. I tested an instalation that I did not want to keep and when it was installed and i tested to see it worked and i was satisfied, I went to delete it and I could not delete it via the Handheld. However upon a little more playing with the application I went to the left side where it lists the handheld applications, selected the application I did not want and right mouse clicked and chose delete and it removed it with ease, I think it will also remove other listed applications though I chose not to try (I am happy with what I have), but it certainly makes an ardous process a snap. Good job man I wish I had had this 6 months ago.

I make small additions to BB_Manager:

- it can use password to connect to BB
- it generates JAD file for JAR if JAD file is not found
- more correct work with big files

The link to new BB_Manager is located in initial message.

Great software! One question though. When you load a JAR file does it automatically get converted to a COD file?

Silen,

When I run your program, following your instructions, I get this message:

To run this application, you must install one of the following versions of the .NET framework:
v2.0.50215
Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET framework.

I have installed it 3 times. I even rebooted to see if that fixes the problem. It still gives me that message.

What's going on?

2 dcrhaekte: You have to install .NET ftramework 2.0. You may give it from MS site ( .NET framework 2.0 ).

2 Shdw-Knt: the application by itself doesn't convert/generate anything As I describe it's just GUI for JavaLoader/rapc utilities (both are in the archive). All files (7 files: bb.ico, BB_Manager.exe, ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll, JavaLoader.exe, net_rim_api.jar, rapc.exe, rapc.jar) should be located in the same folder from you run BB_Manager.exe. To check the posible issues with:

1. Connection - run DOS promt, in the folder run command:
JavaLoader -usb deviceinfo

if connection OK you will have Hardware Id,PIN,OS Version and etc. of your BB.

2. Convertion JAR/JAD - run DOS promt, in the folder run command:
rapc import=net_rim_api.jar codename=Test -midlet test.jar

where test.jar - any JAR file by your choice, if it has JAD file add
jad=test.jad

to command. If convertion OK you will have COD file.

Hope this brief info will help you.

When I run BBManager, I get an hourglass on the screen and nothing else. I think it might have something to do with an error I get when the program launches.

Hi ALL,

I will upload the application soon. I do not have BB anymore and I'm not interested in futer development of this APP, so if somebody would like to take care of it I may send source files (it written in VB.NET) - just send me PM.

Thank you,
Silen

There is the last (means I do not develop it any more) version of BBM:

BB_Manager_bin.zip of size 30.711 KB

BB_Manager_setup.zip of size 322.8 KB

I do not have BB and could not provide next BB SDK files:JavaLoader.exe, net_rim_api.jar, rapc.exe, rapc.jar. But you may download SDK from BB site. Files should be placed in BBM folder.

Good luck,
Silen
