Hi,

I bought an unlocked Vodafone Blackberry 9500. The service provider SIM card that i have inserted into the phone s not Vodafone.

This service provider(Airtel) has their own GPRS package that i have activated.

When i try to access the internet through the Blackberry browser its says "Unable to connect to the internet, please try again. If the problem persists please contact your service provider"

I googled the net and found if i don't have a data plan then i wont be able to access internet through the Blackberry browser. So i installed Opera Mini. When i try to access through Opera again it says "Connection Failed".

How can i access internet given the fact that i don't want to avail a Data plan and want just to get my GPRS activated.

Did you enter the correct apn settings in options?

You need a BB data plan for RIM related services, i.e. BB Browser, BBM, AppWorld, email, etc.

Opera Mini is very problematic for many users. Some get it to work, others do not. Make sure that you have the proper Opera version for your device AND OS. And then you wil need the correct APN settings as mentioned above.

Perhaps a search on Opera settings and a read of the Aftermarket section?

Try HTML rather than Sockets for the connection setting in Opera.

@Dubdub - I have installed the Opera Mini 5 beta. What kind of App setting are you talking about. When i start Opera i cannot access any options for Opera. Not even after i select the Menu button.

@jk - Where can i find the connection setting of Opera. I installed it in 9500 and the icon displays in the Download section. I click it and after some time it says Connection Failed. Even if i try to click the Menu button while Opera is still running it does not show up any "Options" section.

The APN settings are entered in TCP options and depend on your service provider. Opera Mini website has a good listing.

In OM5 Beta 2, the wrench icon > Settings > Advanced > Protocol

I don't have 4.2 any more.
