I'm an avid Nascar fan and I like the Idea of listening to the race with my BB plus I want to see if it can be done. Although you might think a Nascar fan and a BB can co-exist we are out here

I still have no idea what the blackberry has to do with it.

Radio Shack sells special Nascar editions of their scanners that come pre-programmed with the frequencies you'd need.

CAN WHAT BE DONE?

Use the blackberry as a scanner? No.
Other than that I still don't understand what you are asking. You said interface with a scanner initially you still didn't explain that. Interface the USB port to a scanner? No, can't be done since a blackberry is a USB slave and a scanner with a USB port is a slave as well.

Or did you want to connect the audio from the scanner to the blackberry so someone can hear it over over another phone that you called, yes that is possible, just splice the wires into the earpiece.

The logic inside a blackberry lets it talk to a iDEN network over the 800MHz spectrum. It does not have analog capabilities that you'd need for a scanner.

I simply wanted to be able to listen to the scanner through my blackberry, there are websites that have online police scanners also, put I want to be able to wherever I am. I want a scanner capable blackberry basically not because it makes sense just because it can be done.

am also a scanner enthusiast and what I would like is the ability for the Blackberry to listen to AUDIO FEEDS, such as mp3 streams. you can get many scanner feeds off the internet to listen to, and they are very low bandwidth. But these require mp3 play back on the device, which only the 8700 has at this time..

A scanner feed is no different than any music feed, except the qualitry can be signifigantly reduced (thus less bandwidth used)

it's only a matter of time, but i don't think we will see it for a year at this point.

No. They are in a different band, using different technology. Plus, if you were able to modify it to do that, it would be illegal to use in some states, as there are laws against possessing scanners in cars and such.

The questions that come across this forum are amazing! Mine wasn't serious by the way!

Wirelessly posted (7290: Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry7290/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

You can modify some Ham Radios to pickup iDen frequencies , However if the phone uses DSS then you won't be able to get A clear Lock on the sound being sent and received by the unit with DSS.
Most DSS devices will change the frequency every other couple seconds.

Unless you have A race scanner with the same decryption "certs"(Algorythym?) , and this will make it allot more difficult to achieve what you want.
