Default Bolt Browser 2.0 Released

Please Login to Remove!

2.0 of Bolt Browser has been released, and I must say it is a worth while improvement, definitely makes it a big contender for Opera Mini. New tabbed browser and it's actually fairly quick on my Curve.

Bolt Browser

Didn't see a thread on this so I thought I would kick one off.

I'm not digging it. I think the native browser is more flexible. I couldn't set my homepage and it always seem to be loading something. I uninstalled it already...

Anybody compare it with Opera Mini 5? I know there were some reviews that said the tabbed browsing in OM lags older BB devices.

I like Bolt a lot, but with the speed of the native browser picking up *a lot* in the latest leaks, it gets tougher to choose. How many people use the CNN / ESPN video features? On paper it sounds great, but I don't actually use it much.

Has anyone had any real problems with it. I noticed that it is a beta.

additional information:
When I had the link sent to my 8900, I got a message saying that though the OS 5.0 was detected, just responded saying that the device was not a supported device. I sent an email to Bolt support, and they just responded saying that just the Storm 2, Storm and 9700 were the only supported devices using the OS 5.0, and that if any problems should arise, they could not offer any help at this time.

To be honest I started using Bolt a bit more lately over OM.

OM 5 is a bit slow on my 8330 so I have been comparing it to 4.2.2

I find the rendering in Bolt noticeable over OM 4.2.2

I haven't tried OM5 but I rather like the tab browsing on Bolt. Works surprisingly well. Thought it would lag my device.

I am looking for a browser that will "remeber" my logon information. Does the Bolt do that and do you know of any browser for a Verizon BB Storm 2 that will remember?

Yes, Bolt remembers your log on information. I don't know how long it remembers it, though. There are times when I have had to log in again.

Okay, thanks for the information. Have you tried using Opera Mobile or Opera Mini and if so how do they compare in your experience

Another question which may be more than you are aware is where are the login information stored - on the Blackberry or on a Bolt server?

Not too sure, but it's probably doesn't matter too much because all the traffic goes through their servers to format for your BlackBerry.

I use all three browsers: the default browser, Bolt browser, and Opera Mini. All have their pros and cons.

The Bolt Browser renders pages well. The entire page is displayed and you have to do a lot of side-to-side scrolling. The font used is default to the browser. All web pages use that font.

Opera Mini is good too. It also renders pages well. The previous version, 4.2?, didn't. The full page is displayed on the screen. You can zoom into sections by moving a square around the page. The fonts displayed are the fonts used by the website. Opera Mini displays mobile web pages well. Opera Mini remembers log on info too.

I have no idea where the log on information is stored.

Here's something that I wrote up on the forum a while back comparing Bolt and Opera: Blackberry Browser v Opera-Mini

While I think Bolt might be a better browser, I prefer Opera because with a socket connection, it's blazingly fast. When I need to look up something on my BB, it's usually quick so I don't need a pretty page to load up. But that's just me.

Thanks for the information it is very helpful.

I loaded both Bolt & OM. In both apps I am having problems entering inforation. In bolt the cursor seems not to be easy to control. Am I setup wrong I tried using that video test but it never did anything, also I can't seem to figure out how to zoom in blt.

Bolt is a bit different in that it let's you type directly into a field rather than open up another window like Opera. If you don't like that way, you can turn off the type in field option.

As for zoom, I recall there was a keyboard shortcut for that. I think it was 5?

I decided that Opera Mini was more user friendly for my purposes on a Storm 2 with a touch screen so I uninstalled Bolt
