My VZW Blackberry Storm 1 will not download Skype application for Verizon Blackberry’s. I contacted VZW tech support and they directed me to Download Skype for your mobile web site to download the application. Mine failed while the VZW tech's Blackberry installed successfully. We both were using the same Blackberry Storm 1 models, same Internet browser options, and are both running 5.0.0.328 OS. The only difference is, I'm behind a BES and his Storm is BIS. They suggested I contact our BES support team. Of course my corp BES team states they are not filtering anything that would prohibit downloads. I have done several battery pulls without success. Any work arounds??
Skype for berry just came out not too long ago. I'm sure theyr still working on their site and everything. I would imagine itl take a while to have it fully functional and downloadable
I got the same "sorry..." message. Wondering if it is not ready for Storm2 yet (even though, on VZW site, it is listed under "Compatible Phones" list).
MegaBuzzer, that worked. Just remember to change it to Internet Explorer and don't close the browser, keep the browser up.
When you are going through the BES, the websites will think that it's your BES server browser that is connecting to SKYPE, the above steps makes a direct connection to skype without going through your bes server... FYI all local calls on SKYPE are still going to be forwarded to your local carrier, only long distance calls outside of the US can be used. Hope someone get's a hack for this to let any call go anywhere.
This is a little dated. But I opened a ticket with RIM.
The response I got was:
"The following has been determined through discussions with our team and Skype.
Skype is filtering by “user-agent” and “vendorid” within our HTTP requests. It ensures that the request is only coming from the “Carrier” browser, which includes our Internet Browser through the BlackBerry Internet Service."
At this time, it doesn't look like Skype is allowing BES requests. I don't know if these can be changed on the BES, but I thought I would post the official answer at this time.
