Default Help with Tasks Application

Please Login to Remove!

I just purchased an 8700 and love it except for one thing- the tasks application. I've scoured the forums for advice and couldn't find what I'm looking for. On my Treo and PocketPC's, I was able to easily view my tasks (that sync with Outlook) by category and due date with filters.

PocketDay seems to be the closest to this but it's still not robust enough (no category sort or day filters beyond current day). Also, I'd like the app to be stand alone for just tasks and I don't know if PocketDay could be stripped down.

Seems like everybody knows that Tasks are a weakness for the BB platform. Anybody know of any programs that would help? The one from Dataviz isn't my cup of tea because you need internet access just to get your tasks.

Thanks!

Man, I think you're screwed. There have been previous threads about this exact subject and if memory serves, the result was what I said, you're screwed. Pocketday is the most robust application I've been in contact with, but from your description of need, it would not suit every desire you have.

Good luck!

ekang,

The reason that PocketDay doesn't have categories in it is because RIM doesn't currently expose these to developers. They have told me it's coming, but when I don't know. When it arrives, we will be adding that functionality immediately.

You know, this is not the first time that the limited functionality of Tasks in the Blackberry OS has been discussed, and not in a positive light, I might add. I'm not sure of what is and is not accessible to a third-party developer in this arena, but maybe something Crossriver might want to look into as a possible add-on or something of that nature.

What do I know...

We have something in development that can replace the built in task app. Keep watching for more details...

Everybody,
Thanks for the replies.

Mark,
I've been using your app for several days now and I am hooked. Other than the ability to filter tasks by category and date (and to assign categories to new tasks), I'm sold and will be purchasing your product this week (can't decide on personal or pro version).
Will your task app in development will still be part of the Pocket Day app or will it be stand alone?

Thanks!

It's been so long since I've gotten the pro version that I can't remember the version differences between it and the personal. What I do know is I find the weather, stock and RSS capabilities nearly critical for me now. And with the additional sports add-on that's available...... priceless. You truly can't go wrong from a $$$ standpoint with Pocketday if for no other reason than the high level of product development coupled with outstanding customer service and technical support.

Either version, you won't be sorry.

Tirsch, is this Task app going to be compatible with the built-in one? I hope one doesn't have to input all the tasks again to use this app.

We have a method that will grab all the current tasks, but it won't keep them in sync. Once they are in the new program that's where they stay. Also, no syncing to the PC at first. This is NOT a pure task application, it has many more uses.

I personaly do not mind the syncing part although it would be nice. I am more interested in a program like LISTPRO which I had for my IPAQ. I would basicaly just want something that could have say a master task like "Updating Product Literature" and then have several sub task under that where each sub task could be checked off. Will your new program have this? In any case I anticipate what you come up with.

Do you have a ETA on this program?

Thanks for your responses.

Mark - You've got me very curious! Any functional details you can "leak" to add to the anticipation?
