Default More Checkbook App Problems

Please Login to Remove!

I'm still trying to find a checkbook app for BlackBerry which will actually let me save the data I enter. Only two that I know of claim to have this feature: Ascendo Money and Wisespent. They accomplish this by e-mailing the user file (an ASC text file, for example) as an attachment to the location of your choice.

I have both demos and neither works. The e-mails get sent but the small attachment never shows up. I have a hard time believing that both these programs are defective... is there something I'm missing on the device itself to get these programs to work?

I'm using OS version 4.02 with a 7290. Any help would be appreciated.

Are they supposed to send the files? Being demo versions they might have taken that feature out? I dont know anything about those programs, just a suggestion.

Hi,

I'm Olivier developer of Wisespent.

No it is supposed to work.Even with the trial version.

Your OS is ok and model too.
The problem you are facing is a well-known bug that faces third party applications such as mine. Some large providers (such as Tmobile and so on) use a Blackberry mail server that deal extremely bad with third party applications sending attachment.

They keep Blackberry tags in the email. They don't filter them out as valid MIME code (the ones that will be understood by your email reader)

RIM told me that they plan to fix the bug in next versions...

In the meantime...There is a solution

I guess you are probably using a Webmail application or something else.

Outlook is able to show you Wisespent attachment. The emails you will received will show you some "weird" filenames such as "file0001.dat". Simply save them on your hardisk they are valid CSV file. You can still import them into excel and print/save data.

Olivier

Hi Studley,

Marc from Ascendo here. We have also experienced problems caused by Operator Gateways.

We ended up developing a Desktop Sync Tool with Ascendo Money V2.1 that allows you to transfer data to PC over data cable and export in TXT or QIF formats, see http://www.ascendo-inc.com/Money.html

I have two applications in my 8700g that I use to keep track with my expenses. One is Mobile Checkbooks and ExpenseLog Pro2.

The Mobile Checkbooks doesn't have that fancy screen configuration unlike the ExpenseLong Pro2 but you can email your expenses from your BlackBerry into your email as an excel file format. If your purpose is to just keep track of your Checking account and the checks you have issued, I think this is a good application to have.

I like the ExpenseLog Pro2 as well because you can actually access and sync your expenses (not necessarily just your checking account but also your credit card charges and cash expenses) online. You register yourself and get your account setup the way you want it and you can sync to your Blackberry or from your Blackberry to the web-based account.

Though I like both, I find it easier to use the ExpenseLog Pro2 because when you are in a hurry and just needed to keep a note on how much you spent and if it was charged on a credit card or paid in cash, you can easily do it on your BB and update the correct information later in the computer and sync to have an updated information on your BB.

The upgrade to the BB software and the addition of the desktop sync that Marc made in Ascendo Money version 2 may solve the issue of having a good piece of checking software on the BB. I have only used it for a day but it solved most of my wants.
