I just installed the free versions of both the applications. They are running fine but both have options for homescreen icons. These are not appearing.

How I get these on to the homescreen..?

The icons are probably in the downloads folder - move them to the home screen using the "move" menu function.

May also want to try a battery pull. I've been using BW for years never really had any problems with it after the install.
Also make sure you backup your settings that's a lifesaver.
