Unhappy Problems installing 3rd party apps on 8700c - 01-23-2006, 02:44 PM

I just got my 8700c through my company, and I am trying to install my first 3rd party app, CryptMagic. I am getting the following error from the Application Loader Wizard after I browse for the cryptmagic.alx file:

"No additional applications designed for your handheld were found."

Can anyone help with this?

Thank you!

You can load apps 2 ways, one OTA through the broswer on the BB and the other by using the app loader on a PC via USB. Sounds like you are trying the latter. When you open the appl loader, there is a browse button that you need to use and point the browser where the zip file was unzipped to.

ps, since you did mention "through your company" they may have an IT policy that prohibits you from installing 3rd party apps" but I would think you would get another type of error.

Yep, I did this and browsed for the cryptmagic.alx file, and when I click OK, I get the error message. Thanks for the reply but I'm basically no further than I was before.

I'm somewhat nervous about this "IT policy" situation. If I'm prevented from downloading 3rd party apps from my company (Johnson & Johnson), then that basically kills a ton of the functionality that I was expecting with the 8700c.

Default Correction for 8700c 3rd party app load problem - 02-20-2006, 01:58 PM

When I first started using the 8700c, I also received the "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found." message upon trying to load 3rd party apps.

I corrected this by upgrading Blackberry Device Manager (on my PC) to version 4.1.0.9

That is correct, that is why I would never put my own personal BB on a corporate BES. You can still get the e-mail forwarded to you, and as far as synch is concerned unless you absolutely cannot live without OTA synch of calendar issues I still would not put my personal BB on a corporate BES. If it is indeed a corporate issued one then you are simply SOL, I would go buy one for my own use. The other side of using your own on a corporate BES, is that once you are set to leave the association with that company you better make sure that the IT department gets rid of that IT Policy from "Your" phone or you will have it follow you unless you manage to get rid of it.
