Licence Key Transfer Limit I tend to frequently change devices, either for the same (breakdown or warranty service) or for an upgrade. I recently purchased a Torch 2, and after one day of use, decided to revert to my 9800 and returned the unit. A third party vendor (present on BB App World), from whom I had purchased in December 2009 a licence, has declined the transfer to my new PIN on the basis of "maximum number of allowed device transfers has been exceeded". I am choosing at this point not to disclose the vendor's name, and want to hear others opinions, and see if I'm having unfair expectations. I, for one, never saw or read of any limitations in number of device transfers. I do not see what their issue could be, as long as they authorize only one device (they of course disable the previous pin when they authorize a new one). For two, I think that individuals who frequently change devices, may be even more "active" than others, and would potentially purchase more software, so should not be treated like "abusers" (of what??, of buying lots of terminals??) I am really insulted by this, especially that they don't even answer the service requests, open since September 12. Opinions? Any other known such practices? Thanks |
Re: Licence Key Transfer Limit Personally, I am grateful that they allow the license to be transferred at all. Often software licenses on computers are not able to be transferred when you purchase a new computer. So it seems entirely reasonable to me that the software developer would put some sort of limit on the privilege of being able to transfer the license to a new device. And it also seems reasonable to have limits to discourage abusive switching. |
Re: Licence Key Transfer Limit I think it is more aimed to limit mass fey sharing... Either way, I completely agree with you mama Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |

I do not see any abuse opportunity here. All I see is a person who changes devices frequently (all in all, maybe two or three devices in a year). |

Re: Licence Key Transfer Limit I had one piece of software that they did not transfer even once; that irritated me. I can see some upper limit as to the number of transfers, but suspect that it should be handled by allowing additional transfers by paying a modest fee -- perhaps the equivalent of 1/3 of the original purchase price (or something like that). |
Re: Licence Key Transfer Limit You are allowed up to five PIN transfers per year. Pretty generous, I'd say. Details: KB17625 How to install or transfer previously purchased applications from BlackBerry App World to a BlackBerry smartphone |

But if they want to charge a reasonable fee for the device swap, and they say it up front, I may not like it, but it would not be a show stopper for me. |
Re: Licence Key Transfer Limit This issue has been resolved. The vendor honored the PIN change. I have made possibly three device changes this year. |
