"Blue" stock market app: what's the symbol for Dow Jones Ind Avg? Is anyone using "Blue" stock market app? It's a great freebie with candlestick charts (it beats Bloomberg Mobile here) and global selection of stocks and futures, but I have hit a brick wall trying to figure out the symbol for Dow Jones Industrials Average. Usually it's $DJI, $INDU, INDU:IND, etc. The app's official website is here: http://jsmwireless.com/mobile/home.aspx Here are a few symbol examples, if anyone decides to try it out: SPX.MDE ($SPX from MDX Index Value Service) COMP.NAQ YM2Z.CBE (ECBOT) ES2Z.GCMX (GLOBEX) CL2Z.NMN (NYMEX GLOBEX) GC2Z.CGX (COMEX GLOBEX) IBM.NYSE MSFT.NAQ HOU.TSX RCI/B.TSX ZNN.TSV VOD.LSE (Vodafone, LSE SETS) RIO.ASX (Rio Tinto, Australia) VALE3.SAO (Vale, Sao Paulo) ZWC.WAR (Zywiec, Warsaw) Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
Re: "Blue" stock market app: what's the symbol for Dow Jones Ind Avg? After having a closer look at quote pages preset in Blue, it seems that the data for some indexes is not available, and equivalent continued futures contracts are used instead. Here are a few examples: $INDU = YM.CBE (Ecbot) DAX 30 = FDAX.EUX (Eurex) FTSE 100 = Z.LIF (LIFFE) The symbols used on preset pages are actually different, but they are apparently not linked to symbol search engine: F-DJIA, F-DAX, F-FTSE100 The only problem with using index futures is that if you don't have real time data subscription for those exchanges, the data is one hour delayed. Index data usually has only 20 minute delay or is not delayed at all. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |

Re: "Blue" stock market app: what's the symbol for Dow Jones Ind Avg? D J I A |
Re: "Blue" stock market app: what's the symbol for Dow Jones Ind Avg? D J I A (with or w/o spaces) doesn't work, but when I punched the Yahoo symbol ^DJI in Blue's search window, two more symbols that I have missed before have come up (exchanges are e-CBOT and CBOT): DJI.CBE DJI.CBOT When e-CBOT opens on Sunday evening you can see if DJI.CBE is updating during overnight session (if it's just an index symbol, it shouldn't). Then on Monday you can compare the symbols to INDU:IND from Bloomberg app and see if the data is delayed 15 min or more. Has anyone come across any user forums for Blue? It's a great app but it has its quirks. For instance, with the two symbols above, if you enter them in "search" as DJI.CBE and DJI.CBOT the message comes up: "no symbol found". Another issue is the lack of user settings backup in Blue. With all the custom watch lists and layouts that you can create there should be a way to save all this in a backup file on SD card. |
Re: "Blue" stock market app: what's the symbol for Dow Jones Ind Avg? Here are my conclusions after looking at the data during the trading hours: The data for Dow Jones Industrials Average Index is not available in Blue stock market app. Futures symbols are used instead and they are one hour delayed, unless you have real time data subscription for CBOT or e-CBOT: DJIA.CBOT - this is F-DJIA in watch lists pre-installed with Blue. DJI.CBE - updated only during the night session, no intraday charts. YM.CBE - 24 hr Globex symbol (mini $5 Dow futures). Less delay than with DJIA.CBOT (full futures contract). In that case, Bloomberg Mobile seems much better for monitoring US index quotes, as the delay is only 15-20 minutes. On the other hand, Blue looks ok for watching Canadian stocks and indexes. They have standard 20 min delay. BTW, if we are talking about stock market apps. There is also a very good website designed by Barchart data service that offers interactive quotes and charts. Here are a few examples: Barchart Mobile - Watchlist Barchart Mobile - Chart Barchart Mobile - Chart Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
Re: "Blue" stock market app: what's the symbol for Dow Jones Ind Avg? Symbol correction (the post above): DJIA.CBOT should be DJI.CBOT Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
