Bipper has just launched their free personal safety app bSafe on BlackBerry. Already available for iOS and Android, bSafe broadcasts an SOS message to your pre-selected contacts along with your location with the press of a single button.
Having broadcasted a message that you are in danger with a push of a button can be a real deterrent to would-be attackers. The software is set up so that you select in advance from a list of your most frequent callers who is to be on your guardian list. You can select as many guardians as you like you receive SMS notification that you are in trouble; you also get one person on your list that receives a pre-recorded voice call.
The software also includes a few other extras in their personal safety app, including being able to trigger a false incoming call and triggering an SOS if you donít check back after a certain time.
Though itís no replacement for street smarts and common sense, itís far better than having no plan of action if you need to quickly send out an SOS. Software like this is only as good as your friendsí response time and your phoneís GPS, but it does give users something to think about in terms of how to go about avoiding danger and being proactive about getting out of bad situations.
