Default Google Local - 8700c... tried everything - 02-08-2006, 10:46 PM

still can't get past the "network unavailable"... i've spent a week researching on the net, talking to cingular BB support, and researching on this forum.... still nothing. i've done as google suggests and delete the IPPP for 5 click service book and register now.... still nothing.

all of my other apps/email/web works fine. i have the wap.cingular service added onto my account. RambleIM, BBlocal and BBweather all work perfectly.

Anyone have any idea whats going on here... it would be extremely beneficial if i could get this app to work.

surely i'm not the only person having problems with this?.?.?

BBlocal is ok as a backup... but not nearly as powerful as full blown google maps. i'll try about anything at this point. well... short of tossing it in the garbage.

Rogers and Cingular are both GSM carriers so your berry can surf the
web using the TCP browser. Because of this, I think some BES admins
don't bother activating the MDS service, but this is required for
Google Local. Google didn't support TCP like the author of HelloWorld
(www.freek.ca) did.

I'm currently wrestling with my BES admin to start the MDS service so
that it will work on my Rogers berry.

I installed it and it didn't work either. On the 8700c and cingular. I also downloaded Operamini and it doesn't work...dunno.

I just resolved this problem today. Talked to Cingular data support people and they tried several things (including pushing me new APN settings). The final thing that did it for me was getting provisioned for the Internet Browser application (not just the Cingular Browser). I had to restart the system before it worked, but after that Google Local works well.

So do you just call to to have it provisioned?

Unhappy Maybe missing some BES settings beyond "split pipe", MDS... - 02-26-2006, 02:18 PM

I am having the same problem. Did all the suggested steps;
- removed the IPPP. Registered.
- added the APN (voicestream). Re-started.
- changed the browser emulator
- wiped the handheld
After wiping the handhed it works, but if I do the enterprise activation I get the "network unavailable"error again.
The settings on my BES are allowing MDS browsing and "split-pipe".

I am about to quit on this. I guess the combintation 8700c on TMO on BES doesn't work. Any additional ideas?

have your network admins remove your device and re-add to the network. I had similar problems, that no one else had, when OS 4.0 first came out and I could not get any internet applications to work. It took a while but the carrier had to remove and readd/reprovision my device on THEIR end.

Yesterday I did this for someone and got this error. Install was done in a moving bus. 30 min later we reinstalled and it went away. He was on BES. It should work on BES so try to reinstall.

for BES folks, when using the BlackBerry Browser, I have to authenticate using my network credentials (as if I was logging into my laptop), but I do not for the Internet Browser or the Cingular Browser.

If I use the BlackBerry Browser and authenticate, then immediately switch to Google Local, it works ... I no longer get the network unavailable message.

Did you have to perform a backup of the device prior to doing the wipe, then restore?

For anyone interested in downloading Google Mobile for use on T-Mobile, don't. It won't work. I tried using it on a Nokia 6101, and upon launch, the app said that it could not get permission to access the network, and didn't seen to work on my BB 7230. If anyone can get it to work on a T-Mobile BB. Good Luck
