Unhappy Google Local a Battery Hog?

Please Login to Remove!

After installing Google Local on my BB7250 (Verizon) a week ago, I noticed a drastic drain on my battery (hi-capacity, by the way).

By evening, after an otherwise normal day of usage, the battery was down to 5% (normally it would drop down to anywhere from 60% to 80%, depending on the amount of phone activity). This was with about two ten minute sessions exploring with the BB Local maps and satellite imagery during the day.

Checking my other applications, like BBToday and BBWeather, the ping times on those were already set to very infrequent intervals. Never a problem with those apps in the past.

My Ramble IM was off. My BBMessenger was inactive. Nothing else going on. Normal amount of device usage (phone, email, web-browsing, Newsclip downloads, etc.).

This continued for three days. Finally, I uninstalled Google Local and charged the BB at night, as I always do. The next day, I noticed the battery drain was back to normal. By late evening, it was down to 80%.

I'm no engineer, but I would hazard a guess that Google Local was the culprit. Anyone have a similar experience?

It seems like I remember an extreme drain but stopped it by making sure I quit the app when I was done using it. My worse battery drain now is Piconews, which seems to constantly poll for news, but even with it, I am good charging my standard battery twice a week.

I have not noticed the "extreme" drain on battery currently but maybe since I only use it a couple of times a day and ESC out of it only. But with a 7520, hard to tell who eats the battery... if I look at it wrong I lose 10%...See there it went

As previously stated, make sure you QUIT the program. I have a 7250 through Verizon and use Google local but never had an issue w/the battery. Even when I do use the program I dont notice much of a battery drain from it.

DITTO here.

Same BB, same provider. I use google local but have not ever experienced any excesive battery loss. I quit out of the program when I am done. I have the extended battery for mine and I ussually go four days without having to charge, I use email heavily. Phone seldom. BBMessenger medium to light, and Ramble very lightly. Google maps I use medium to light. Do some surfing, and when I am stuck someplace will play Tetris or Spider solitaire.

I have a BB 7520, Google Local drains the battery in about 2 hrs if I leave in on. I have learned to look up the info and exit the application. It must be constantly polling.
