Thank You!

I absolutely suck at this.

VERY new BB user here. Here's what I'd like to accomplish. I'd like to chat on msn messenger on my phone, I'd like it to look kinda' sorta' like a chat session, and I'd like to not spend any more money since I already pay $500 per month to Verizon.

1. Is this possible? I keep thinking I can just find "MSN Messenger For Blackberry" or something, but I can't.

2. If it is possible, can you type REALLY REALLY SLOWLY when you tell me step by step how to make this magical mystical technology work?

You need to upgrade to the 4.2.1.107 OS from TMobile. Log onto TMobile Upgrade and update your device using the instructions and downloads there.

Then you should get the Oz instant messenger application which uses sms.

Good luck.

Updating the software allows you to be able to use IM without getting the "feature enabler" from TMobile. That was one of TMo's big reasons for releasing this new version of the OS.

Default Yahoo IM - 09-28-2007, 09:51 AM

I would like to implement Yahoo IM.

Can somebody please tell me if this communicates through the BES internet connection (which is effectively free ) or the carrier's mobile data service, thus incurring a charge for every kB transferred?

Thanks in advance.

JiveTalk is awesome. Be sure and get the transferrable license. It's an extra $10 but worth it if you have to change BB's (warranty, wanted a new BB, etc.) Yes, it's a one time fee.

Default JIve talk failing - 10-13-2007, 07:52 AM

After months of being a happy user on BES of jive talk i am now being hit with a 403 forbidden error message each time i try to log in. Does this mean my IT community have blocked the connection? is there another reason? is there a workaround? any help greatly appreciated.

Default IM+ - not happy - 10-25-2007, 08:04 AM

I downloaded this for my 8703e and thought it would be killer. looks nice but it disconnects me automatically atleast from AIM. happens after about 5 minutes idle or so. I emailed the company but I got no response. Guess I need to find a new company to do business with. I thought I would try verichat but it doesn't state support for the 87XX.

recommendations?

thanks.

you are not only using data when you are sending an IM. You are constantly sending/receiving data to maintain your connection. On average I do around 50-60MB of data per month.

EDIT: Not trying to scare you away from JT. I send/receive a lot of emails,RSS,etc as well.

JiveTalk, obviously. It's much better than IM+ at the moment (JiveTalk 1.0.2 versus IM+ 5.0.9).

Thanks,

I think it would be useful to post which carriers RIM's IM applications work for. I'm curious to know which apps work for AT&T since I am currently awaiting my 8310....

I am a jivetalk user though, but i am feeling the 2.0.xx of Googletalk...

Default T-Mobile / BB Data Plan - 11-09-2007, 11:26 AM

I could not find if anyone already asked this here before but..

I have the unlimited data plan from T-Mobile and have to pay for each SMS text message sent/received. So I started using Google Talk after the nighmare it was to get my bill after using OZ Messenger.

But just to make sure, I contacted T-Mobile through email to have them confirm that since Google Talk uses data to transmit messages, and because I have the unlimitted data plan, that I should not get any extra charges on my bill. So I just got their answer and they say that I will still get charged for ever message. I told them to double check everything because it makes not sense.

Is there anyone out there who's got the same set up as I do and has been using Google Talk without having to pay for every message?

Google Talk uses your data connection, not sms. You will not be charged for sms.

There is a great app called JiveTalk that works with all the IM services. Give it a try

beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging
