Yeah the Yahoo IM is great and works seamlessly - too bad MSN decided not to jump on the bandwagon.
Oh well - guess I'll just make friends that use Yahoo IM from now on!

Ramble IM problem -
02-22-2006, 06:44 PM
I downloaded Ramble IM and cant seem to figure out how to get this started.
I keep on getting the same error message every time I try to log on to the program:
Invalid Connection String:
Bad DNS Address
Here are my specs:
Device: 7130e
Carrier: Bell Mobility Canada (on the EV-DO network)
Not connected through BES.
I cant figure out how to change my TCP settings – Its nowhere in my options menu.
Hope you can help me..

Could this mean that we can use any application on the 7130e that requires access to the internet as opposed to not being able to because of the disabled TCP/IP stack on the 7250?
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

The answer is NO. You would have to be on a BES server.

Thanks for your answer - its just that the support guy at Ramble said that you dont have to be on a BES server...

Most people dont but apparently there are restrictions that are set directly by Bell Mobility. I am with Verizon in NJ and I do not have BES and my Ramble works great. You are experiencing a carrier restriction rather than a software one. The answer i copied above came from a person that works directly for Bell Mobility Data Support.

Mark, or anyone else. I have a question. Not that I'm trying to dodge paying for these IM apps, but i noticed there is this really cool website called "meebo" you can find it at http://www.meebo.com . It is web 2.0 based, and it lets you log on simultaneously (within the browser) into google talk/msn/aim/yahoo messenger/or even jabber. I tried, but it wouldn't work. Can any of you take a look at it? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, it is probably that the page uses javascript, But i thought it'd be worth a shot to put it on here.
Thanks a bunch,
J.T.

Here is how I do msn messenger
go to the web icon on your bb and go to the "nextel wireless web" go down to "news" then go all the way down to MSNBC and then you can choose from a bunch of MSN options.....hotmail, messenger, calandar etc.
The only thing is that its kinda dificult to get the hang of but once you do its pretty cool (hit refresh button to get reply )
I dont know if it costs any money tho so if anyone knows can you please let me know?

Question from a newbie...in fact, such a newbie, I don't even have my first blackberry yet (coming soon).
I am mostly only interested in Yahoo!. Is there a free blackberry Yahoo messenger service, or would I have to use one of those multi-platform ones in the faq like Verichat.
If I do have to use one like Verichat, would that allow me to use the "invisible" mode like I do in Yahoo!?

I'm recently interested in getting an IM client for Yahoo (primarily). I also use Google, but not as much, so that's just a nice-to-have. I have the trial of Verichat installed and it's indeed very nice. I like the IM Bots they have. But damn - $45 PER YEAR seems to be a bit steep for a small IM client.
Is this still the front-runner?
I'm also testing out IM+ since it's only $45 period - no annual fee.
Any latest thoughts?

What about the invisible mode? DId you notice whether that was an option in either?
I agree about the Verichat....I hate software that wants you to pay a service fee to use.

No visible mode in IM+ at this time. I deleted Verichat, so I'm not sure about that one...

MSN through Google Talk -
03-10-2006, 09:43 AM
You can use GoogleTalk for blackberry to log in MSN via a transport.
This makes RIM Google Talk a FREE MSN client on the BlackBerry...
(BTW, There is transport for many other IM like ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, MSN...)

Question. On my BB7520 ive noticed that when I start up Ramble it signifigantly slows down the performance of my BB. I clear out the current conversations continually and just jumping between my Mail and Pin messages while IM'ing is aggravating to say the least. I dont have that many other applications. Ive only added spell check, BB light, Ask me now and google maps. Am I possibly running to many applications? I have 14232632bytes free.

Hi, techteam.
The fee is one-time. I've used this app for a while.
They also have a pretty good customer service. I had issues a few times:
a) I changed jobs and I had to return the 7200 I was using back to that employer. so when I bought a new device (8700 a few months ago), my registration code didn't work (cuz it was still registered to the old device's IEM and PIN numbers. They sorted me out in a few hours (all via email)
b) I had issues with cingular blockin ports on me, they helped me out once again.
those guys should really hook up with Trillian. They kinda do the same thing but on different devices f

I'm a SK2 user who is migrating to the upcoming TMO 8700. The AIM program on the SK2 imports all your settings when you log on(loads buddy list syncronization and privacy settings, i.e. blocked users et cetera).
Do any of the Blackberry chat programs have the same ability?

Does anyone know of an SIP client for the BB? -
04-10-2006, 07:05 AM
I'm looking for an IM client for the Blackberry that will communicate over the standard IM networks (Yahoo, AIM, MSN), as well as be able to connect to an SIP IM Network without the need of any other software other than maybe Desktop Manager / Application Manager to install the software onto the Blackberry.
Multiple accounts per network would be nice too, but not a prerequisite.
Any one know of such a beast?
TIA!

Went to the Blackberry YahooDownload site tonight and they have removed any blocks on downloading Yahoo Messenger, so now anybody can download it, the only requirement is OS code 4.0 or higher. I downloaded it and installed it. I can confirm it works on T-Mobile USA even though they weren't on the list. It is much better than using the wap version, that's for sure

It totally burns me that some of the chat programs are free, and the MSN one is 29.99....what a rip.
Save your cash...rumour has it that Microsoft is working on client software for the Blackberry so that we can hook up MSN for free. Anyone else heard this?

Does Yahoo work on 8700 w/ Cingular? I downloaded it. When I run it, it keeps telling me to go to blackberry.com/go/yahoo, asking me to download again. I'm stuck in a loop.

No, you'd have to purchase an application, such as Verichat or the like that include Yahoo in order to be able to use Yahoo. The link on the BlackBerry website for Yahoo Messenger will work on the Nextel or IDEN capable BlackBerry phones but not the Cingular 8700c unless that capability has been added recently.

That's what I was afraid of re: Cingular.
Does anyone know if there are multiprotocol clients I can install OTA? I'm on a Mac so I prefer to download that way.
