Yes, Firewall is disabled and Disable MDS Proxy is checked in the bbWeather software. In the Location ID, I just entered in my location code I got from weather.com (CAXX0343). Do I need to enter in a full URL? (I don't think so). Also, I am a Canuck using Bell Mobility. Could it be possible they've blocked this? Thanks again...

Well, I'm down to grasping at straws, but I remember reading somewhere that Bell Mobility does not have an APN and didn't appear to be too hot on the idea. And, as a test, I changed my location ID to yours and got the weather for Ottawa, so we can rule out a bad location ID. (Oh, and after tomorrow, the rest of the week looks pretty good.)

Alright people, I have a Blackberry 7290 from T_Mobile and I am unable to get this BBToday Weather section working. I have disabled my firewall in my options and checked and saved the disable MDS Proxy setting. In the location ID field I have used my zip code. When I got to update now it says "could not open tunnel - failed". Can someone help me out?

Error - BBWeather -
08-19-2005, 07:03 PM
~~ I fixed my own problem folks. Sorry for the wasted post.
I am trying to get BBWeather to work and I am not having any luck. My firewall is disabled and the MDS Proxy is checked. I get an error 'Error: Connection Closed".
If I don't check the MDS Proxy box I get an error "Error: Could not find a service book entry for IPPP".
Any help??
Matt

BBToday and BBWeather -
08-24-2005, 07:07 AM
Have downloaded both of the above and installed them on my 7250. In both cases, I have items stating that they have a "bad DNS address". Looks like they both will be useful, but can't find any info on either what address they are pointing at, or how to change it.
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Bill

I am also using a 7250 on the Bell Mobility system, and am getting the same "Bad DNS Address" message that Jabba is, after saying that it is retrieving data. I am using the Toronto weather code of CAXX0504.
Also am receiving a message that my service book does not include IPPP, when I look in the status settings, it is enabled. Have turned off the MDS proxy as per some users suggestions.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Idea for new tool... -
08-24-2005, 05:49 PM
I would really love to see a tool that changes the default behavior for a locked screen with the option to place calls when locked. Basically, right now you have to scroll to 'Place Call' and then bring up the phone app. I think if you click the phone button it should check if its locked--and still allowed to make calls when locked--and automatically go straight to the phone app.

I was also experiencing trouble with the BBWeather.
I scoured this thread and a few others with no luck. Here is the fix that I found:
I have T-Mobile 7105
Turn off the mds proxy in the bbweather config
Turn off the firewall in the BB settings
Look at the troubleshooting tips here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=2185 - from Mark's BIG Blackberry FAQ
Thanks Mark for doing this.

Mark,
You seem to be the authority on this, maybe you can help out a few of us and put this issue to bed once and for all.
Using BB Today: is there a way to set it so that BB Today becomes the default or home screen?
Thanks
Scott

Not sure if this helps
Yes, you have the correct code - I am in Toronto as well and use the same one.
Yes, you need to disable the MDS Proxy - be sure it says MDS Proxy disabled and there is a check mark.
Then try to update...if this does not work have you tried a re-boot? remove the battery and then start up again
hope this helps

Still hoping that BBToday will add the option to display SMS messages rec'd in addition to email. They show in the messages area on my 7280, but BBToday does not acknowledge them. Please!!! Thanks

For the life of me what is the big deal with SMS messages. You already have a terrific e-mail device in your hands and all I hear is complaints about darn SMS messages. Dont you people have enough with email. To me SMS messages is kid stuff. Lets sneak a message to see if we dont get caught doing it, so third grade.

Has anyone tried BBtoday on a 7105T yet? I admit to being a bit skiddish about installing new 3rd party apps as I just spent time over the last couple of days "flushing and refilling" my new 7105T so it now works...

To get the Whether location id for BBToday, type in the city name in the field. Click the wheel and choose lookup ID. This will then find the ID for the city you specified.

I d/l and installed two days ago. Nice little application, took me a while to figure out solution to get the weather & stocks to show properly. I have T-Mobile 7105 w/ V4.02. Look to Mark's Big BB FAQ at:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=2185
for TCP/IP config help.

Mini Weather on bbtoday -
11-16-2005, 05:07 PM
I have been unable to get the miniweather on the bbtoday to work. I found my code for the city: usak0012 but still it will not work. I live in anchorage alaska so we don't have any of the major carriers here. but are supported by them. Cellular One by Dobson is our carrier and is supported by Cingular since they bought out AT&T.
Also, I purchased HelloWorld on Handango and have been unable to get the images to work even after 16 messages with the developer.

Your problem is not a software issue -- Your problem is a carrier TCP/IP issue.
Configuring Internet On BlackBerry - WAP/APN/Gateway Settings
You can now run Internet (TCP/IP) software on BlackBerry nowadays! No BES/MDS needed anymore! You can now do chat software, AIM, ICQ, MSN, IRC, telnet/ssh, web browsing, etc, on many carriers now.
Also, it is possible Dobson may not support TCP/IP (third party networking software). If this is the case, you either need to get BES/MDS hosting or switch to a different carrier to make these third party networking applications working (non-BlackBerry-branded network software)
Thanks,
Mark Rejhon

bbtoday miniweather -
11-17-2005, 01:07 PM
Mark,
I read your message and have tried several things and I can't get straight answers from Dobson CS. However, after trying several things I now get a message on the bbweather and bbtoday miniweather that says "bad DNS address" any idea what that means?
