Default BBToday & Pocketday Browser Conflict

Please Login to Remove!

I have installed BBToday and Pocketday (one at a time) and got both programs to work fine on my 8700g. Both programs caused a conflict with my web browser. After either program would update either stocks or weather, and I would try to use the web browser, I would get a error (401) code and could not load a page. I would have to do a reset to get the browser to work until the next time stocks or weather was updated. Anyone having the same problems or any suggestions? I have removed the progams but really would like to use one but not at the expense of having to reset 4 or more times a day.

My only suggestion: try installing one, not both, of the programs. That may solve it.

I installed BBToday first and when I got the error with it, I uninstalled BBToday and THEN installed Pocketday. I then got the same conflict with PD so I also uninstalled it. This was all over a period of three days.

I wonder if I am the only one getting the error. If so then there must be some setting on my BB that is causing it unless it is something with Dobson as I am having other unrelated problems loading two specific web pages that this forum told me was a script error on Dobson's end.

Sorry I didn't make myself clearer in my original post.

Thanks for the reply

Actually it was my failure to read your first post clearly. I'm really not sure what your problem is. Maybe running the PocketDay WAP version would end the conflict? I'm just guessing at solutions here....

Make sure the firewall on your BB is disabled and then go to BB home/options/settings/security/app permissions. Set pocketday to Allow for everything.

Thanks for the tip. When I get some time, I will reinstall PD and check those settings.
My firewall is and was disabled.

Well, I tried PD again. PD works fine but AFTER it updates and I go to use the browser, I STILL get the 401 error message on any page I try. After I do a reset, the browser works fine until PD updates again. The same thing seems to be happening with any third party software application that has an update feature. Anyone have any suggestions?

Contact PocketDay support. The function is just a click away in the menu ("Support"). They are very responsive.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will do that but I don't really think it is a PD issue. My Blackberry does the same thing on BBtoday and several other third party software that updates data either on its own or when I refresh. If I am the only one having this problem on my 8700g then it is either a setting on my BB or a problem with Dobson. (Their help desk has been NO help). I will have to find someone also on Dobson and see if they are having the same problems.

I was kinda having this issue with CellularOne. I was unable to get any third party apps to work (except Yahoo!) and after searching a bit, I added the APN 'cellular1wap' under tcp and now these apps work. . . GREAT right! No. Now my browser does not work. So I dont believe its just you and I dont believe its app specific. Specifically I was trying to get google maps to work and it would not download the Terms of Service. Once I entered the APN, it worked great, but lost internet. Odd.

Just as a test, I pulled the battery and when it came up, tried the internet. . . and now it works. Hmmn. Time to try google maps again. . . . and they are working. . . so lets just try the internet again. . . and no go. "Error: Unsupported authentication scheme" and next screen HTTP error 401. Well, Cell1 tech support just said that the BB team comes in at 7:30am so I should try to call then.
All in all, its not just you, Its both of us. Same error same carrier (basically). Ill let you know what I hear.

Default Welcome to the club

I was beginning to think it was just me and some setting I had on my BB. Google Maps is the ONLY 3rd party program that I have tried that works and does NOT cause me to get the errors you mentioned with my browser. (I also change my APN to 'cellular1wap'). Every other 3rd party application I have tried causes me to get the "Error: Unsupported authentication scheme" and next screen "HTTP error 401". Because of this, I have removed all of them except for Opera Mini browser. (Even though Opera will cause the error, it's nice to have another browser as it will load some pages that the BB browser will not.)
Most of the time, I can do a 'soft reset' instead of having to take the battery
out and that will fix the problem until the next time. (Alt. twice).
Also, when I do get the error on the BB browser, Opera Mini still works.
I had given up trying to get it fixed but now I will start bugging Dodbson tier II help desk (their BB support team) again and see if I get anywhere. Will keep you posted here.

I have the same problem with Dobson Cellular ....

I am getting the same errors and the best i can figure is that the TCP:cellular1wap setting is causing it. But without it, my google maps and ramble wont work.

Cellular One Customer Care has been no help at all levels they just keep resetting me service books.

So let me know if you hear anything.

Default Is This Possible?!?!?

O.k. after doing some messing around I think I found the solution.

All of my Favorites were under "wireless internet" category. Just for kicks I put some of them under "Blackberry Bookmarks" and when I went to the webpage from there....NO ERROR!!! So then I said to myself...Self, is it possible? Then I took the same "favorite" and put it under the wireless internet category, Tried it and got the error! Put it back under Blackberry Bookmarks and no error.

Let me know it this works for you, but for me, so far so good!

I am a bit confused here (which is normal for me). This thread is about getting the 401 error on any web site you try after a third party app. like Pocketday updates (except Google Maps). So, are you saying that you do not get this error by moving bookmarks into the Blackberry folder after a third party app updates?

I do get a 400 error trying to log into the wap site of this forum (plus a few other web sites) so I moved the bookmark to the Blackberry folder and I still get the 400 error. (I have NO trouble logging into this forums regular site.)

O. K. I'll backup a bit....

You mentioned that you set your APN to cellular1wap.I had done the same so that my Third party apps. Would work (in my case Ramble and Google Maps), after that my BB browser started giving me the authentication scheme error followed by the 401 error...The same errors you were getting right?

Since we were using the same network (Dobson) I stumbled on my solution by moving my bookmarks to the "Blackberry Bookmarks" folder...I have no idea why it worked for me, and I was hoping it would work for you .Sorry it didn't.

btw...I still have not gotten a single error since making the change. Sorry It didn't help you i will post more info. if and when I find it.

For me, Google Maps works fine using APN 'cellular1wap' and I do not get any errors using the browser after using Google Maps. I got the errors after using other third party apps like Pocketday, BB Today and Opera Mini. I would keep getting the errors until I did a reset. I have removed those apps (Except for Opera Mini which I use only when the BB browser doesn't display a web page correctly.)

Can you log into http://wap.blackberryforums.com without getting a 400 error?

Have you tried any of the 3rd party apps I mentioned?

You are correct. I was using Opera Mini which after I use and go to the wireless browser, then I get the 401 error until I do a reset. So after using Opera, I tried a couple of bookmarks. The ones unter the wireless internet, gave me the 401 error and the ones I had moved to the Blackberry bookmarks did not. Under the Blackberry Browser, I found another set of Browser Options, and after I check them all, I am now able to log on to the wap site of this forum but I still can't under the wireless bookmarks.
I have read on the forum that the two browsers go through different servers which might explain things.

I'm glad to hear you are not getting the errors, and the thing about them using different servers makes sense.
