Default SplashID like program for Blackberry?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm considering a Blackberry however I think I may have found a possible dealbreaker for me . . .

I've been a Palm OS user for several years and have come to rely on the program Splash ID fairly heavily. It's a nice locked database program that you can use to store quite a bit of personal information securely.

http://www.splashdata.com/splashid/index.htm

They appear to make the program for every smartphone OS under the sun except for Blackberry . . .

Are there any other equivilent programs available for the Blackberry that anyone knows of? Or maybe there's something built into the Blackberry that does the same thing that I'm not aware of?

Blackberry OS 4.0 version has something called Password Keeper that'll store some information (Title, Username, Password, Website, Notes). It's not nearly as versatile as the program you're currently using and I don't believe it's sync'd to the PC (someone else who uses it might be able to help out there).

That's all I've got to help you. I've only been a Blackberry user for 4 days, so I'm no authority on it.

I have a page comparing Cryptmagic and Minisafe at my tips site. I ended up prefering Cryptmagic.

Password Keeper doesn't synch with a PC (except for data back-up) but I think that the security level is as high as you can hope to get. For example if you switch apps with alt-escape, go the homescreen on the 8700 using the red key, or lock your device (with a convenience key if so enabled), you cannot get back in without the password. You cannot leave it accidentally open. And you know that the encryption is good; that's one of RIM's greatest strengths.

Latest OS for 7130c. Does not install via Application Loader. All other apps install/deinstall properly. Definitely a beta. Until we see an official release, I plan to stick with CryptMagic (I use SplashID on my T|X).

I also was a Palm & Splash ID user for many, many years and I went with Ascendo Datavault over all the above listed programs as it is the most Splash ID-like of them all in my opinion. If you do a search, you can also find a post I made that suggests how you might customize your security settings to make the data itself less vulnerable. The BB is an online device and this needs to be addressed with such hazardous possibilities. Good luck in your choice!

SplashID is currently fixing their ALX (the ALX from 3.4 beta does not install properly) to support installation through Application Loader.

SplashID for BlackBerry takes up too much precious screen real estate with its title/section bars and default font. I am a SplashID for Palm OS user and find the BlackBerry offering inferior to what CryptMagic has to offer (although I do prefer 256 Blowfish over 128 AES). Learn few lessons from CryptMagic, improve your UI accordingly and I may become a SplashID for BlackBerry user some day...
