Default jmirc send shortcut? - flywheel pains

Please Login to Remove!

Is there a send message shortcut for jmirc .95??? it seems really stupid that you have to doulbe click on the flywheel to send your message. It would have been REALLY NICE if return would just send - like who sends chat messages that require new line anyways.

Incidently, the more comfortable I get with the flywheel the more times I find myself scolling when I meant to double click - As nice and functional as the BB 8700 is, it holds nothing to ergonmics of the Sidekick - it's no wonder all the OS patching that's been done to get around the whole shortcut shortcummings with the product.

Thanks.

jmIrc is a generic program designed for cell phones with a limited keyboard. The developer might be willing to add return-key functions if enough QWERTY-keyboard users ask for it. Hereís the link to the developerís website: http://jmirc.sourceforge.net/index.html.

If the blackberry had an alternate "submit" or "send" button other than the flywheel wouldn't that automatically work with this and other third party aps? I'm willing to be jmirc on other phones accepts the send button. The send button on BB takes me to the call list.

Question, how would the developer of a generic product know what key "return" is on the Blackberry anyways.. is there a generally understood ascii code for it? Side Note, when entering your BB password, return is accepted as send. I guess since return can't be part of the password.

I do think most bb users would agree "return" would be a better send for IRC messages than a flywheel option.

I've sent him an email. jmIrc is really nice regardless.. seems to do the job pertty well ... it's just this quirk and I think its more a BB shortcomming in not having a functional send button. If anybody knows of a workaround please let me know.

No send key shortcut but I do have quite a few in the tips docs at my tips site.

This is the exact feature i've been asking the developer for since I found this app (and at the time did not work on the Blackberry!)

You are best requesting it with the developer directly.. but he is working within the limitations of the J2ME spec..

oh and by the way -- JMIRC Is by far the best BB IRC app -- it's not really worth complaining over -- it works great considering it's free =) So be kind when you ask for the feature..

I don't see it as a big change or any limitation of j2me. It might however be a standards issue - depending on how BB and other phones address the return key. BTW, The browser app on BB understands return to be send on most pages.

I do have to say the product is very nice, much easier to use and more reliable than I expected on any phone... except for the flywheel send I can't complain at all. predictive favorites (phrases) would have been awsome.. but that might be pushing it.

Until you or I get off our lazy butts and modify the program we are at the mercy of the developer(s). It's open source software -- that's the best part!

Unfortunately, like I said i'm lazy and i'm content to simply use the software.. i'm on 24/7 on weekends and it is nearly flawless with exception to a disconnection about once per day..

I find the layout of the trackwheel/menu to be conflicting, as you could type a message and click the trackwheel, then accidentally press "join" instead. But this app is designed for all phones, not BB thus we live within it's limitations =)
