Default BBToday - new (2.0) version out there???

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know about a fairly major revision from the currently available BBToday 1.5? I was just looking around in the source code file trees at http://sourceforge.net/projects/blackberrytools/ and there's a directory called "BBToday2", in addition to the BBToday directory. That branch of the source trees appears to have been done by a "reedcwade" and the release notes doc talks about some pretty nice upgrades. The notes doc says:

changes--

- fixed the save on screen exit problem for all plugins, removed save option from menus in plugins

- removed "BBToday" title from main screen

- added "or Zip Code" to wx location id field label

- added application global options for WAP gateway info, tunnel username/passwd and MDS proxy disable, removed MDS option from
wx and stocks plugins

- added to calendar plugin menu: agenda, day, week, month launch of calendar app

- made wx and stocks update time an open numeric field instead (of a pick from list)

- made poll timeout for mail, cal, task phone an open numeric field instead (of a pick from list)

- relabeled menu items from "Preferences" and "Options" to clarify plugin and application options

- removed generic "Select" menu item from plugin base class, added specific items for the plugins that wanted them

- font size option for the clock plugin

- added time range option for calendar look ahead

- replaced options management code throughout the application with a simple hash table
based mechanism

- changed field select to line bars instead of blue background

- added option to display all tasks

- hot keys!

- "about" screen

- adding battery charging indicator to device plugin

Has anyone ever heard of this version? The notes doc is dated 12/23/2005. Any idea who "reedcwade" is or if and where binaries of this new version might be available?

Binaries are in CVS: /bbtoday2/rimWorkspace

or the bbtoday2.zip in the root

tateu - thanks for the response. Not being a developer at all, I hadn't noticed that. Looking at that directory, I see all sorts of files that weren't there with the 1.5 binaries when I originally installed. I see the corresponding .alx, .cod and .jad files, but there are also csl, .cso, .jar and several more files. Are those needed? Also, the BBToday_weatherimages.cod file that 1.5 uses is not there - is it needed?

I'm willing to give this a try, if I know what to load. It looks like an upgrade that would be really nice for lots of current BBToday users. Do you know anything about this version? If its buggy I guess I'm stuck, since the developer doesn't appear to be online here.

Thanks!

I can't say for sure, but it looks like the BBToday_weatherimages.cod has beed compiled directly into bbtoday.cod. The old bbtoday.cod and BBToday_weatherimages.cod files were about 50KB each. The new bbtoday.cod is about 116KB.

So, for desktop install you just need bbtoday.alx and bbtoday.cod. All the other files are used during compilation only and are not needed by the end user. For OTA install, you would need bbtoday.jad and bbtoday.cod and a web server to download them from with the correct MIME headers set up.

And I don't know anything about this version. I've never even installed the original version.

Unhappy

Well, a while back I had downloaded and installed the BlackBerry JDE in order to get access to javaloader. Since that package included PC simulators for the 7290 I have, I decided to try out the simulator first. BBToday 1.5 loads and operates properly on the simulator. When I attempt to load the 2.0 bbtoday.cod instead, I get no icon for it on the main screen after loading, and it doesn't show up in the modules list as loaded either (1.5 showed properly in that list also.)

So, with those results in the simulator, I'm a bit reticent to try to load it onto my BlackBerry itself. And I've never written a single line of java code, so I'm not the one to dig into the source and try to figure it out. Anyone else out there with java expertise inclined to take a look?

Really? Shows up fine in my 7290 simulator, an icon and a module. The weather and other icons inside the program don't work though. Left side is BBToday v1.5, right side is new v2.01. Icon is at bottom.
