Default AskMeNow Alternative?!?!?!?!! - 06-21-2006, 04:59 PM

Over the past month AskMeNow doesn't work for me anymore. I thought it was a free service because it was ad supported. I never minded the ads after the answer but now it seems that I would have to pay per answer and that's just not cool.

I have been using google or yahoo to search for answers now but I prefer the email method. Is there an alternative for this? Is there an app that costs maybe 10-20 bucks to buy or another ad supported free one?

If the experts here know please let this frustrated guy know! Thanks much

I’m no expert but Berry411 works for me and it’s free.

A charge? I have been using it for months with no charge. I just used it and it works fine. I am using v2.04. The upgrade conflicts with Berry411.

Berry411 is a very powerful program too.

Also, you should put an address book entry in your device for hz.com. It is free and fast.

Can you tell me where you found the new version please? I tried the website (AskMeNow.com) but when I put in my carrier Rogers (aka Robbers) it tells me to use my carriers browser or something like that to download it. I don't want to do that because if I download it from Rogers business tools section I have to pay $0.75 for every answer and that money goes to Robbers.

From your Blackberry, go to www.askmenow.com/blackberry/ota.html and download it. In this version, you can only ask your question. It is not the one with separate sections, but it is free.

Hi,

I'm a little confused, can someone explain the difference between askmeanything and askmenow, I was looking at the askmenow website and its a little confusing.

From the rest of this thread I am assuming that I can download the askmenow app from www.askmenow.com/blackberry/ota.html and use it to ask questions without a charge (other than it coming out of my email allowance) is that correct? I don't pay the bill for my device and don't want get hung, drawn and quatered for racking up a huge bill!!

I have never used AskMeAnything. I have an umlimited plan and I have never paid anything extra to use AskMeNow. It is one of the best programs that I have on my device.

Ask Me Now was working fine after I installed it but since Saturday night it hasn't been working at all. Anyone else notice this at all?

Mine just quit on me. I tried to download the app again to see if that would help but everytime I use that link it I get an error message on the browser saying:

HTTP Error 404: Not Found
The page you are trying to load could not be found. Please try loading a different page.

I give up now.

Hmmm....

Funny. I just tried it and it worked. Are you sure that you have it set up correctly (the correct email account)?

Go to www.askmenow.com and sign up your number for an account too.

Good luck.

I can't register or whatever online. I tried that but when it asks for my wirless number and provider it tells me to get it from my service provider. My service provider has Ask Me Now on their wap business tools list but if I download it from my provider answers will be $0.75 per answer.

Someone in my office told me they use Ask Me Now and it wasn't working for 3-4 days but now it works again more times than none and to try it again. I tried a stock quote and it worked then asked a question and nothing came back so I will keep trying. If it doesn't work then whatever eff it.

I have Berry411 and don't want it to conflict. Is anyone else having this conflict? Where can I find version v2.04?

Recent versions of Berry411 don't conflict. (The latest is 3.10)

Even though Berry411 is now working well with the latest AskMeNow I've still reverted to AskMeNow v2.xx because it loads faster and has a much simpler interface.

I received a free version of AskMeNow which has the sections (so I guess that's AskMeAnything). It was part of a promotion. Suddenly, after a couple of months, it's telling me that it checked my subscription at Handango and it isn't current. Therefore it would shut me down in 4 days.
Free ain't free, I guess.

The OTA website doesn't exist anymore. Anyone have another one?
