Lightbulb Replacing Registration Codes - 08-16-2006, 10:45 PM

Had a little problem getting a replacment reg code for some software I purchased a few months ago after upgrading to a new BlackBerry.

Should software developers issue you a new registration code for software you already purchased when you update or replace your BlackBerry?

Do you think there should be a limit to the number of times you can do this?

I'm trying to understand both sides of the issue...

Most developers use the BB Pin # when you purchase the software and attach it to the registration code which only lets the software usable on the that BB. Each developer has their own policies. So it is up to them if they will provide new codes for an upgrade from one device to another.

I personally feel if I purchased software and have to change my device either by upgrade or replacement from a broken device that they should honor the change. Not all developers wil do this. Also keep in mind that if the change would also provide an upgrade. Some developers charge for a major version change like v3.4 to v4.0. In this case I feel the upgrade fee should apply.

I fully support paying for software. The BB developer community is not massive market like Windows software. Developers need to protect their software. More than likely if you fully explain your situation to the developer, they will probally work with you.
