So far, I'm not impressed.

You have to download an "Avantgo Launcher," which appears to simply be a webpage, then signup, then it opens another webpage, which then directs you to download an additional program, which is sort of like an add-on to the device's existing browser and is about 300k, before downloading any content. Then it makes you sign in with the account that you just registered. Except I tried to register three times with three different email addresses and each time it told me I was using an invalid userid or there was a network error.

Finally, I went to options, synch options, and changed "BES" to "BIS-B" (even though I am on a BES), and then it connected to the Avango server.

After a few minutes, it loaded some channels, but gave no indication how to add or delete channels. So, I logged onto their website via my pc and deleted a few of the channels they gave me and added a couple. There' a poor selection of incredibly crappy channels. You can add rss feeds, but there are better orograms for that.

Then i ran a sych on the device and after a couple of failures to connect to their server. it took about 5 minutes to download the new content. the reason it takes so long is that the content is graphic heavy--mostly ads.

After the Sync, I still had the channels I had deleted and didn't have the new channels I added. When you close out of the program, it makes you click through a few ads.

Result: Uninstalled.

I used it in the days long ago w/ my shiny new (at that time) palm Vx but with omnisky a now defunct wireless data service (actually was a minstral modem and cellular data service).

it worked pretty well and was a good news / info source with thousands of sources of content including many top shelf brands. very good sync and also good wireless update if you had the modem.

that was before RSS and also way before blackberry, etc.

since then they were purchased by sybase (I believe) expanded or tried to into corp. markets, but still have a free offering.

I find the formatting to be pretty decent (at least vs. some other readers) and the have some good news / info sources. now you can also specify your own RSS sources etc.

I'm surprised you say crappy channels as there are several thousand ranging from standard business week, WSJ, wired, etc. to the more rare..did you click the channels tab?

I did find the install clunky with the two separate downloads, but dind't have to click through any ads. I did find the sync to take a while, but that may have been just the initial..not sure yet.

I'm sure they have kinks in the process which is why they are calling it beta (and it really seems to be). but, I'll probably give it a few more tries and also use their feedback process.

based on my prior experience with it, my guess / hope would be they work out the two step install, speed the sync times, etc. & found the content to be worth it.

just my own 2c of course.
