Default Looking for free GPS

Please Login to Remove!

I am currently using Hello World GPS on my 7100i which works fine but I'm looking for a free application that would allow others to log into a website and see my location. Nextel offers Mobile Locator but they charge $15.00 a month per phone and you have to log into your Nextel account to track the unit. I was using AccuTracking on my old i930 but they want $6.00 a month for Blackberry service and it requires an application to run in the background.

I know that Mobile Locator has some limitations such as not being able to track the unit if it is in use and that sometimes the locations are the closest tower and not the exact location but I can deal with that.

What I'd like to find is something that can poll the phone on demand and not require any software be loaded or running on the phone. The program should allow someone to log into a website and poll the phone for it's location or allow a "subscriber" to cut and paste html code to an existing website.

Before anyone says anything, I know there has to be some kind of security in the program to prevent just anyone from signing up any phone such as an x or someone to stalk them.

Free = not going to happen. Quit being a cheap skate and deal with it.

Hey.

I messed with this application from Mologogo (Mologogo: The GPS phone tracking social network & friend finding for Nextel, Boost, Blackberry and Windows Mobile Phones with GPS) a couple months back but ran out of energy messing with it. It's a battery killer, at least on my 7520, but you may want to check it out.

Good Luck!

I tried it on my 7100i and every time I tried to load the map on my phone all I got was a checkerborad patten on my screen with a message saying "Can't load map".

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7520/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

There is honestly no reason why there can't be a (good) free gps app. I mean Berry 411 is an AWESOME app. and it's completely.

Someone must have some ideas on how to log into a website and poll a unit for it's location. Hell Nextel can do so I'm sure someone he can come up with something.

Try Chronicle Road - it just launched this past week - and yes it is free. Oddly to your query it does just that however in-device it currently doesn't show position. Chronicle Road is a geoblogging service initially catering to BlackBerry users and is in a definate beta state. The domain is chronicleroad.com (I apparently don't have 10+ posts on bbforums so I can't post the URL).

This is my 3rd BlackBerry startup (inc. Idokorro and Magmic).

Enjoy,

...John Criswick

I signed up for Chronicle Road this week after seeing it listed on BlackBerry Cool but like most GPS application this requires an application be loaded and running on a handset.

This is being used in a blue collar service company where the guys don't want the Dispatcher / Boss to know what their doing or where they are.

Someone on another forum pointed me to XORA which seems to do what I want, still not free but a little better pricing and more features then Mobile Locate.

Mologogo take some tinkering to get it to work, but I think it is what you are looking for. On their wiki there are several web page feed hacks and other useful tools. I have my blackberry feeding an SQL database through a web page feed. You can see a demo of mine at willoliver.com . Thee are links on the right side for location data.

Not sure if this will apply to you, since you are using a 7100I, but the next software release (4.2) for 8700 series, 8100 series etc, blackberrys features a mapping software that can connect to an external bluetooth gps device. Now, since your device has this built in, it will most likely work with it, depending on whether or not nextel will allow the upgrade to take place.

No shit? How will that apply to Verizon, which has disabled the internal GPS on 7130e and the 8703e?
