well, since I it did not work the first time... I removed and re-installed and all seems good to go. Not sure what the problem was as there were no install errors the first time but now it seems to be working fine.

I ordered mine today. Thanks to everyone who posted on the thread which headed off many questions I would have had during the install & setup phase.
BByMel, one quick question. Like others, my voicemail notify isn't working because of the "my phone number as the sender" issue. I totally understand how this is a problem. Programatically, are there any other options? Like check any SMS that appears to originate from itself (your own number) could be considered a voicemail and bypass your SMS code and go directly to the alert functions for voicemail? I have never attempted to program on these devices so I'm not sure how the code base is segmented.

To all the 8700 owners, be patient... I think BByMel found a solution to the error that some of us (including me) were experiencing. I am sure he'll be posting the fixed version soon.

Version 1.49 test is up here if anyone is stuck with 8700 errors (outofmemory). This version should run on anything but has only been tested on 8700:
-also changed SMS receiving a little bit so anyone that had SMS not being detected should try it out too
http://bbymel.servebbs.com/sms/BlackBerryAlerts.jad
Note: Looked into level 1 messaging and I still don't think there is access but there was announcement about more APIs being opened up.
Please send a private message if you notice any bugs.

What is the difference btw version 1.3 and 1.4. Are there more color choices or any other additional options? Thanx.

Yes more color options, that's about it (other than bug fixes).
Download is up now, case sensitive url though.

I too hope there is a solution for Level 1. A competitor product uses the features built within the Blackberry to establish a filter menu to filter various key fields looking for user provided key words. When a match is found the user provided ringtone is used to alert along with a pop-up - repetitively. This is similiar to the filter concept used by the Blackberry to set "level 1." I really hope there is an API but I have my suspicions if they made it conveniently available. One can only hope. If not, the alternative is to replicate the concept that RIM uses and what the competitor product is doing.

Does BBAlerts allow you to customize the LED color for low battery indication? I tried searching and couldn't find definitive info...

Nope. At least, not that I can see, and I've picked it apart pretty extensively.

Thanks for the info. Would be great to be able to control the low battery LED...as well as JiveTalk LED alerts!
Just wondering aloud...curious if there'd be a way for the code to dynamically determine the different LED events on a particular BlackBerry, either by trapping any methods making calls to the LED, or by creating an entry in the BBAlerts menu for every event entry included in the Profile settings screen?
I've never developed anything for the BB, and it's 2am, so I'll apologize in advance if I'm way off base.

BB Alerts by Mel, and Coverage light -
04-04-2007, 03:21 PM
Ive noticed that after the BB Alerts app cause a color led alert, I have to go into screen/keyboard options to turn the LED coverage light off and then back on for it for the LED coverage light to work again. Anyone else notice this? Is there a fix for it?

Is 1.3 compatible with OS 4.2.1? If not, what version of BBAlerts is? I would like to upgrade to 4.2.1 in order to get the alarm that keeps on ringing.

Yes it is. I have been using 1.3 with both the Telstra and TIM 4.2.1 OS's for the Pearl with no problems.

I actually downgraded to 1.3. I know for a fact that 1.3 makes this program very reliable. 1.49 kept notifying me voicemails as sms messages, I DONT LIKE THAT.

That's probably a Tmo thing, not a BBAlerts thing. I'm running 1.49 on Cingular, and it separates notification just fine.

One thing I noticed, if I am reading mail when one comes in with the important flag up, it doesn't clear that message from the log if I read it. I still get notified later that it came in. I thought it wouldn't warn me once I read it.

I seem to be having issues with the 1.49 release. When I miss a call, the chosen color does a quick (almost don't notice) flash of my chosen color.

I have seen similar issues with the quick flash. As I understand it, it is a timing issue with the built in function for the LED. Sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes I will get a series of almost unseeable flashes and then it will work correctly for a series and then back to the quick unseeable flashes again. It gets even worse if you have multiple color alerts. I also am on an 8703e.

How can this be a T-mo thing? i was using 1.41 and 1.3 just perfect. So it's NOT a TMo thing, as you say.

The ON timing must be at least half the OFF timing time. This is what i did to get the LED to work fine.

I just did the re-install and hard reset - no dice. Still have the quick flash. To the comment earlier, I have on for .5 sec and off for 2 sec. Is there some conflict with the OS LED?

I tried just about ever combination and found setting my ON to 5 seconds and OFF to 1 second did the best for me. I know, this is just the opposite of the recommendation above. Even at this setting I still get the flash (or missing color during the cycle) but it seems to be less frequent. Personally, I think it is a model specific problem with the 8703e's. I haven't seen other people with different models having this issue. Maybe when 4.2 comes out for the 8703e's the issue may go away?

Do you mean the 1.49 linked above or is there another 1.4 I haven't seen? (Handango lists 1.3 on their site...)

BBalerts doesn't startup on bootup any more. I can't seem to find that option. Anybody know where it is? Before I upgraded (OS and BB Alerts) it would start automatically.
