Will be uploading to Handango hopefully today as not many problems, one person thinks it could be causing some reboot issues though.

Does this new version fix the SMS detection?

SMS has been changed slightly so please try it out. But so far it hasn't fixed anyone's SMS not being detected.

Hi, I would like to buy Blackberry Alerts for my 8703e. How can I do this? The hyperlinks in your post don't work. Would you be able to email your answer to me at ? I just got my BB, and I don't go on Blackberry Forums much (this is my first time).

I updated but kept getting an error stating BlackBerryAlerts is trying to access a secure API. And won't launch, tried playing with the permissions but didn't help.

Problem appears both when doing a clean install and upgrade....

I try to install it on my new white Blackberry 8100 Pearl but it does not work. When I try to run it, I get this message, "Error starting BlackBerryAlerts Module 'BlackBerryAlerts' attempts to access a secure API."

Ditto here. And I can't get back to the last version that was posted. Perhaps a 2nd link to the last version could be added while we are all helping test this out? Already sent in my $13

EDIT2: Wait. I see that the other link I have is for 1.3. I had 1.49 before, but without the issue until this latest one that I downloaded. Also my scheduleing feature wasn't working properly. If I have Vibrate on Alert checked it would vibrate no matter how I had my schedule set.

Hey BByMel, why not just use 1.3 as a base? I mean, all this bugs are still present and a lot of users (including me) love this application. As you said " SMS has been changed slightly ", it's just not good enough for some of us to hear. I think that you should work out one handset at a time (model 8100, 8800, etc) don't burn yourself because one bug gets fixed for one model and creates another for the other model. The only version i like it's 1.3 and it was your ever first version. There are other upgrades but to me are not even worth upgrading to. I think that (besides 1.3), Black Berry Alerts is going downhill with NOT much improvement, i think your consistency is not there anymore to make this program fully functional and bug free for us consumers.

I don't mean to sound harsh at all but that's just the way i feel. I also don't know how much of a busy man you are or how complicated this application might be for you. If you're doing this alone and don't have a team then i apologize but i just needed to let it out as i see that you don't have any interest to make this application better. I can keep on but i don't want to feel that i'm the only one that feels this way. AGAIN, MY APOLOGIES!

P.S. Love BBA and would hate to see it vanish or stay stuck at 1.3. I want this application to be even better than just 1.3 but with 1.3 potentials

Yes good point, I am trying to use 1.3 as a base but the latest OS version seem to be causing issues with the display. So I'm not really working on improvements just trying to get everything fixed for now. SMS is difficult for me to test since it works well in North America but random issues elsewhere.

You're the man BByMel, i'll be just fine with 1.3 until you can work out the difficulties with current versions. KUDOS man, i know you're hard at work and i truly respect your work and the time you've been putting on this application for our BB community. Take your time man, i know you have other important things to handle in life besides this wonderful application. Can't see my BB without it.

P.S. Since RIM has released/opened API's ( I may be dreaming when i say this to you) but do you think...in the near future, that maybe the trackball colors can be use as light notifications? that would be cool right? lol. I mean, you can still use the led lights at top but maybe put an option on which leds you want to use, trackball or regular led's at top right.

Can you be more specific? Mine works just fine.

The application doesn't detect SMS messages. It still uses the default red LED indicator, no matter what setting I choose. Even checking control program LED and switching on/off indicators via the profile setting, and after numerous reinstalls/reboots. Yet it detects everything else, e-mail/PIN msgs/Missed calls/Voicemail just fine.

I have contacted Mel over this issue, and it was stated he was working on. Just wasn't sure where the problem was laying.

Yeah I think the trackball light API is already open for 8100, not sure about 8800.

SMS detection does not work at all for some people hence the latest attempted fix. Most of the problems are outside of North America but Velcrohead is having problems in USA.

So it means it's possible then? lol.

I have the same question. My current BlackBerry is an 8100 but may be upgrading to an 8800 then 8300 in a few months. I wouldn't want to have to purchase 3 licenses.

Edit: If anyone else was curious, BByMel said we just need to contact with our new PIN. Now I can make my purchase :-D

I upgraded my OS on my 8700 to the 4.2 OS and now I cannot get any of the custom ringtones that I set for my blackberry alerts to be recognized or play. Does BB Alerts function with the new 8700 4.2 OS. Because if it does not, then I am going back to 4.1 because I cannot do without my BB Alert.

Please someone speak to this. How can I get my BB Alert ringtones to play in the new OS
