I use it with my Pearl....I love the program although it is buggy. I have it blinking red for missed call, orange custom color for email, blue for text and voice mail. It doesn't do well for other events, and sometimes, it keeps blinking blue even though I have checked all messages. But it's workable and a definite plus to no lights.

These were previously mentioned, but a couple tips:

1) Remember to set permissions to Allow. After first battery pull or reboot, check permissions again to see that they "took".

2) CHECK YOUR PROFILES. Check your profiles not only to ensure that the Blackberry Alerts line entry is there, but also every line entry for which you have set an LED notification for in BB Alerts.

For example, let's say you want your LED to blink yellow when you get an email. I won't go into how to set that up in BB Alerts, since that's a no-brainer. But also go into EACH of your Profiles for EACH email account and set REPEAT NOTIFICATION to NONE. So if you have 5 Profiles and 5 email accounts, that's 25 lines that you have to edit, x 2 (in holster and out of holster) = 50. And that's just email. The same applies to Calendar, Phone, SMS, etc. Otherwise, the BB's built-in repeat notification and BB Alerts may conflict and give unpredictable results. This does not apply in all cases but may solve some of your problems.

3) Use the latest version, at time of writing, it's v1.65. Anything older isn't worth troubleshooting.

4) for SMS and/or CDMA issues, visit the author's site for tips: BByMel Software

Ok first post so please be easy on me. I've used the search function here, on other forums and all over Google and just can't get answers to this question...perhaps it because I'm on the Storm and the filters aren't enabled?

How do you set up the filters? When I click "Set Up Filters" I get a message that says...Select Add Filter from menu or edit existing filter. Obviously there is no option in the menu to Add Filter or I wouldn't be asking this lol. Am I supposed to be adding the filters from some other menu? I've searched everywhere on the Storm. Am I missing something really obvious?

Really love this app and hope I can get this feature working but will probably still buy it just so I can have my LED light up in pink

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Because Handago does not list the 8350i as a supported platform, I downloaded a trial version of BBalerts and selected the Blackberry 8330 download. Installed it on my phone and so far so good. I have one week to see if any bugs pop up, but so far it works.

Update on the Filters for anyone using the Storm (who happens to be as stupid as I am lol)...I emailed Mel and he told all you have to do is click the menu button to set up the filters...the click it again to add the filters < n00b here didn't think to click the menu button again! Thanks so much Mel.

For any Storm users interested in getting BB Alerts...I've been using it about 5 days now and all features are running flawlessly!!! Handango lists the product as not being compatible with the Storm, but it's been 100% smooth for me...def at least download the trial on your Storm and try it out!

Thanks for this thread - the Handango "not compatible" message put me off for a while.

But now I've installed it on my 9530 with Telus running .75 and the colour LED alerts seem to work great. However, the sound alerts aren't repeating. If I set Vibrate on Alert on, I get vibrate alerts at the frequency I set. But I don't get the sound. And if I turn Vibrate on Alert off, I get no repeats at all.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas?

TIA - R.

Hi Rooster!!

Yea I keep saying (on here and over on CrackBerry) how perfectly BB Alerts works on the Storm, but I realized that I should be saying the LED's work perfectly because I haven't really tried the sound alerts! I've seen a few posts mentioning problems with the sounds like you're having.

Mel was really nice and helpful when I emailed him about the filters, maybe he could offer some input on this too?

I also discovered at 1:30 this morning that even if you have selected the Phone Only sound profile, if in BB Alerts you have the Vibrate on Alert turned on, if you get an email that sucker will vibrate.

And if it's on a hard surfaced night table by your head and you're a light sleeper, it WILL wake you up!

I can live with the vibrate being the only repeated sound alert - at least that would tell me I had to look at the BB to see what I'd missed. But there's no way I can use it if I have to remember to change an option every night before I go to bed.

Very similar to SMS, except they are sent using the recipient's PIN.

You can send them by launching the menu from an inbox, and selecting "Compose PIN Message".

Why not let the profiles "vibrate" for alerts and disable vibrate within BBAlerts?

Wouldn't that give you what you are looking for?

Sorry, PDM, I don't follow.

"Why not let the profiles "vibrate" for alerts and disable vibrate within BBAlerts? Wouldn't that give you what you are looking for?"

All this does is give me a single vibrate when the alert initially goes off and silence following that. I still get woken up at night (yes, one will do it), and miss out on the benefit of any repeated audible reminder.

Am I missing something???

So Rooster99, what exactly is it that you are looking for? I think I follow, but can you clarify?

At night, you want the initial notification, via LED only and repeat notification via LED only? But during the day, you like both LED and vibrate, both for the initial and repeat notifications?

I had this app before 4.5 OS, and when I upgraded to 4.5 it wouldn't work properly.

However I decided to see if any updated versions support 4.5 os and apparently they do, as its working great just as it did in my old OS.

I couldn't recall what version of blackberry alerts I had pre 4.5os though.

Great app!

Hi Klotar :

At night I would like to have initial and repeat notification via LED only, except for phone. For phone I would like initial notification (ring) to be audible and LED, and repeat notification to be LED only. "Night" mode would be triggered manually by selecting "Phone only" or other sound profile.

During the day I would like initial and repeat notification on all events to be profile tone plus LED. A reasonable substitute would be initial notification on all events to be profile tone plus LED, with repeat notification to be via LED and vibrate only.

These are ideals. if a vibrate needs to be added during the day somewhere that's ok - but not at night.

As an FYI, now that I've used it this way for a couple of days, having all repeat notifications via LED only seems to be ok. Haven't carried my phone by hand into a theater after curtain call or pulled it out at night yet, though.

TIA - R.

sorry to interject here, but I think this may be what you're looking for. In BB Alerts, go to options -> audio type. From what I gather it seems you have it set on "Profiles"? If you change it to "separate profiles" it creates entries for Calls, Email, SMS and Voicemail within each profile (Vibrate, Normal, Phone Only, etc)

From here you can create separate sounds for each. So for example, in your Normal profile you can set it up so sounds Beep1, Beep2, Beep3, and Beep4 play for Calls, Email, SMS and Voicemail, respectively, along with the LED Notification.

In Phone Only profile, you can only set Beep1 to keep reminding you of missed calls audibly, and set the rest to tone:none/mute. The LED will still blink.

Before bed, put it in Phone Only (or whatever profile you have created for this) and that will stop the rest of the alerts from sounding.

Is that what you're looking for?

Hi greggov - thanks for the tips.

I changed my Audio Type from Profiles to "Separate Profiles" flag. I'd already had the separate entries for Phone, EMail, SMS etc. you described, but I'm thinking this will now give have the audio repeat notification come through as set in each sound profile. We'll see.

However, you suggest I edit the Phone Only sound profile and I can't figure out how to do that. When I click on that profile it simply becomes active. When I just select it without clicking, there are no options available. I tried selecting it, then using Set Ring Tones/Alerts but that only seems to change the Normal profile.

I'm using a Storm - maybe that makes it weird? There's nothing in the Storm manual on how to do this - in fact it seems to indicate you can't edit the preloaded profiles. Any tips on what I'm doing wrong?

Update :

1) Changing audio type to Separate Profiles had no effect. Still no audio repeat notification. I think this just doesn't work on the Storm and have given up on it. Have had a couple of email exchanges with the developer and no real response on this.

2) Have seen documentation from Verizon stating that preloaded sound profiles can't be edited - RIM says this is working as designed and Verizon is escalating as they want that capability. Given this, my guess is that the vibrate repeat notification still occurring with the Phone Only profile is a bug in Blackberry Alerts.

3) Combining #1 and #2, I've just turned Vibrate on Alert off and am using the LED repeat notification only. Not 100% of what I hoped for, but it does the job.

I must admit that while I really like this app and will pay for it, I'm disappointed at the lack of upgrade to true Storm compatibility. My guess is this is a dead app and there will be a point somewhere not too long in the future where I will have to find another product to provide repeat notifications.

- R.

Default BB Alerts not working on one account - 03-03-2009, 11:53 AM

Has been working fine on everything. I added an account last night and Alerts will not work AT ALL on this account. No LED, nothing show up in the log, nothing. Still works on the others, SMS, calls, etc., including 2 POP accounts. This one is IMAP. I am using the same settings on all of my email accounts.
Does anyone have any ideas? It's driving me crazy!

Check our BerryBuzz as an alternative. Doesn't offer the repeat audio notifications, but that doesn't workon my Storm anyway.

At least this one has been Stormed, which seems to indicate recent resources being out into it where BlackBerry Alerts doesn't have any more effort behind it. BerryBuzz is also half the price and offers a free trial.

Installed it on my Storm last night and it seems to be working fine. I'm switching just because it currently does for me what BB Alerts does, and I think it has some legs in terms of future enhancements.

I've been using BBAlerts for a couple of years. I just downloaded BerryBuzz, but haven't played with it much. BerryBuzz seems a tad more advanced, the only thing it doesn't offer that BBAlerts has is logging. Logging is useful if you've deleted an email or SMS and want to recall it.

Also, AFAIK, BBAlerts has NEVER worked with Pin messaging. You've never been able to change from the default red color for PIN messaging. Haven't tried this with BerryBuzz.

Does it have VM notification? BBA does and is needed for me.

FYI - Running OS 4.6.168 on my 8900 and the SMS assigned color no longer works (defaults to Red). I tried everything to no avail.. I did however downgrade to BBA version 1.49 which seems to be working perfect!

mpallo, ymark, out of curiosity why would you need a separate notification for vmail? Vmails come from missed calls, so that's covered - then when you pick up your BB to clear that notification there's an icon on your BB that shows there's vmail waiting. So for me, the missed call indicator suffices.

Hmm - now that I'm thinking about it, I guess it would be nice to see if you actually have vmail as not everyone leaves a message. So what I've described is a workaround, but I'll definitely ask the BBuzz developer for the missed call notification as an enhancement.

Sorry for the "stream of consciousness" post - too many brews last night. The neurons are running a little uncontrolled at the moment. <g>

Cool!

I don't need it. The poster above me asked if BerryBuzz had it. I just told him it didn't.

Default Help with BB Alerts - 03-22-2009, 03:42 PM

I cannot get my storm to show BBAlerts under any of my profiles. Therefore, I cannot tell the program what tones to use for notification.

Yesterday, it worked and I had BBAlerts listed under "other" in all of the profiles, but sadly, today, it's gone. Tried restoring the whole berry to last night using the bb software, tried uninstalling program (with and w.o battery pulls) and then reinstalling again (with and w.o battery pulls).

I tried allowing all permissions and changing the compatibility mode (this did get rid of the persistent keyboard when setting options in the program) to no avail. I even tried adding a new custom profile to see if this would bring back the BBAlerts under "other" but sadly...

It kills me 'cause this was working yesterday, and I did nothing new since!!

I'm at wits end with this. I know the program isn't "officially" supported by Handango, but i sent them an email anyway.

Any help appreciated.

BBalerts is working for me with the LED and in Loud and Medium modes for sound but sound will not work in Normal mode, and I cannot change the audio to anything other than "Notifier_Crystal" I went through all of the settings under edit profile and changed them all to something other than "Notifier_Crystal" but under loud and medium profiles, this is the audio the program chooses to use.

Thanks

Default Done with BBAlerts!! - 03-23-2009, 08:24 PM

Sorry to keep posting, but I wanted to relay to the group that UNLIKE what was said earlier in the thread by another poster, BBBuzz DOES OFFER REPEAT AUDIBLE ALERTS. Further it is supported on the storm, is 1/2 the price and seems to be more advanced than BBAlerts. It took me about 5mins to have everything working (customized) exactly the way I wanted with BBBuzz after spending an entire weekend screwing with a version of BBAlerts that is way buggy on the storm.

Bottom line: download both trials but if you have a storm, BBBuzz wins handangos down (no pun intended)

Best to all,

Bye!!

Default Summary Please - 03-25-2009, 12:03 AM

Hi,

I do not have time to read through the 32 pages of this thread and am hoping someone can summarize a few questions for me. I am using a Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8330.

My goal:

* Have repeated audible alerts for missed calls and email (voice mail too but missed calls should cover that)

* No bugs which will cause phone to not ring/beep/vibrate when a call/email is first coming in

* No bugs which will cause phone to make noise through the speaker when it is set to a silent/vibe-only profile or noise of any kind (vibing) when set to a silent profile

* No bugs which may persist after uninstalling the software (any software which is 'try and buy' makes me nervous to begin with since it's leaving something on the phone after it is uninstalled)

Will BBAlerts and/or BBBuzz meet these criteria? I am not concerned about what the LED is doing- there must be some way to destroy it or render it useless if it is too annoying.

Thanks,

Techphets

I have a Sprint 8330 with BerryBuzz installed, and as far as I can see it meets all your criteria. No bugs for me whatsoever. I did uninstall and reinstall, when I upgraded my phone to OS 4.5. (I admit it wasn't uninstalled for more than a day or so, I may have missed something.)

They have a 1 week free trial available, which you can download here:

BerryBuzz - Custom LED Colors, Repeating Alerts and more! - Personal Productivity BlackBerry Software - Crackberry Store

I used to have BB Alerts on my Pearl. The only thing you can do in BB Alerts that you can't do in BerryBuzz is create a custom LED color by selecting the RGB values. If you don't need to do that one specific thing, BerryBuzz is definitely the superior application IMO.

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks kathrynhr. I installed Berry Buzz based on your recommendation and plan to purchase it.

Although Berry Buzz does everything I need, the added features sure are nice to see. The first bug I've run into is that if I have three separate LED colors for email, missed calls, and calendar items and I an alert for each of those goes off, in that order, when the calendar will cancel the email and missed call reminders.

After the calendar item, the LED blinks only one color. Is this a known bug on the Curve 8330 and is there a known workaround?

If there is a thread dedicated to discussing Berry Buzz, please point me in that direction.

Thanks.

I chose BB Alerts over Berry Buzz because BB Alerts allows setting of the speed of the flashing LED. I like a very fast flashing LED and I could get the Berry Buzz to flash fast only for incoming calls. I wish BB Alerts could also flash fast for incoming calls, but I depend on the LED much more for messages.
