Default Best client for AIM? - 11-10-2006, 11:00 AM

I tried searching as much as I could, but with these programs releasing new versions on a monthly basis I thought there might be some better info out there.

All I care about it AIM, I don't use any other service. It seems like Yak-on is the popular choice. I don't care about any special features. I just want to be constantly connected even when I am not using the phone, have the ability to check peoples away messages and put up my own away messages.

Thanks!

Yes, I read through it. However, I was looking for something a little more specific since I only need AIM service.

Thanks!

My best bet would probably be to hold out for RIM's AIM, but it seems like no one knows when it will be released.

Yak-On has my vote, RIM is taking forever to release an AIM client. You keep hearing rumors about RIM's AIM client, and I've been hearing for the past 2 years that one is near finish, but never to be released!

Go with Yak-On, it's the best!

I like WebMessenger a lot, but you have to buy it. Yak-On drains your battery big time.

Any new info? I am buying a pearl if that makes a difference, seems the biggest complaint with Yak-on is battery life. Again this is for AIM only, so it seems like Yak-on and Ramble are the best options (unless someone feels otherwise). What are the pros/cons of those two software systems, price is not a concern.

Thanks.

My earlier poll shows Yak-on was ahead. Now since I am doing a new poll without Verichat on my poll (Verichat has been shut down), I found that Google Talk is now ahead. I heard it can be used to IM people on AOL, MSN, and others.

Can anyone tell me what advantages Yak-on, Ramble, GTalk have over eachother for AIM only?

I use Ramble myself, mostly because it is free.
It used to log me off quite frequently until i changed the network connection from "Device Default" to "Use Device TCP". Ive been logged on for about 2 days so far.
You can put up your own away messages but as far as checking everyone elses, everytime i click on "Check Buddy Info" a blank screen comes up.Dont know whats up with that.

Cant compare to other clients but Ramble works for me.

I downloaded Ramble a little over a week ago. It seems to work well but I have this smiley face with a star over the right eye that will not go away. I assume this shows up when I have a message. How do I make this GO AWAY?

had Ramble, worked ok. Now using Yak-on, works much better and stays connected longer than Ramble.
