How are you going to use the voip? Interested, thanks.

sniper 11-18-2006 04:44 PM

Also interested. Have been looking for this for a long time but nothing serious yet. Where can this be downloaded from?

SHAPE 11-20-2006 09:18 AM

Thank you for interest in our software!

You can make voice calls via SHAPE Services' IM+ for Skype Software using SkypeOut service.
SkypeOut is your personal account where you can add Skype credit to make and receive calls in IM+ for Skype Software. Skype credit is necessary for any incoming or outgoing calls. The calling rates with IM+ for Skype Software are by far a lot cheaper than regular phone calls.

Victoria,

This is quite confusing. I am well aware of Skype, I use it all the time on the desktop and have SkypOut account but there is no documentation on how this works. Does the Skype application have to be running on the PC with the desktop manager? Are you using data for the call? How does it work with GPRS data rates? I am quite happy to try it but not if I have to install and uninstall a bunch of stuff, I would rather understand it better before proceeding. I already use IM+ for the other services. I look forward to hearing from you.

SHAPE 11-21-2006 10:27 AM

Does the Skype application have to be running on the PC with the desktop manager?

Yes, you need to have your PC on and Skype application running

Are you using data for the call?

No, only SkypeOut units are used (not VoIP).

How does it work with GPRS data rates?

IM+ for Skype Software uses GPRS connection only for keeping online and for text messaging. Each message is about 0,5 kB.

Thanks Victoria, that is what I was afraid of. I use Skype on my desktop at home but my work computer where my BlackBerry is installed with the desktop manager doesn't allow peer to peer applications like Skype to be installed so I can't use it then.

Sorry for misunderstanding.
Actually, you can install IM+ for Skype Software desktop service on your home computer where you use Skype, and then you will be able to use IM+ for Skype Software. It is not necessary to install desktop service on the computer where you have Blackberry desktop manager.

great news

Victoria,

downloading and installing as I am typing this, I will be using it extensively the next few days so i will let you know what I find. Would you prefer I post my issues here or email them directly to the support email?

Bruce

Edit 1: Installation on the desktop was easy. Installation on the handheld was a nightmare. I have IM+ installed, I got duplicate files, got errors of all sorts. Deleted IM+ for Skype and then IM+. Trying to reinstall both from scratch.

Edit 2: Reinstalled everything. I still get an error with IM+ for Skype. Error on my 8700V is as follows "Error starting im_skype:Class 'de.shapeservices.bb_connect.AutoConfig$AutoConfig Listener' not found

Edit 3: Okay, I did another desktop sync and then launched the Desktop Application Launcher and I noticed that under the IM+ tree the file im_common was unchecked and automatically selected to delete. There is the same file under the IM+ for Skype tree so I let it delete it. Now neither IM+ or IM+ for Skype works they both give a similar error. The errors are:

Error starting im_skype: Module 'im_common' not found.

The other error is:

Error starting IM_2_BES: Module 'im_common' not found.

But if I go under Module in Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications there is indeed no file called im_common but there is one called im_common_utility. When I looked in Application Launcher at the version of im_common that is was going to delete under IM+ it was 1.2.8, and the one listed as im_common that was under IM+ for Skype was listed as version 1.3 The version number of im_common_utility is 1.3 so is it just that the file has the wrong name under modules?

Any ideas Shape Services?

Please remove all and install only Skype. May be Beta failed...

bjchantry 11-24-2006 04:52 AM

What about IM+

dahov, I thought about trying that but what is the point of that, I want to be able to use my IM+ as well. I will try it for the sake of the testing but if they don't work together on the unit then this won't be acceptable.

Edit 1: Okay dahov, I tried that and I still get the error as follows with no IM+ installed, only IM Skype:

Error starting im_skype:Module 'im_common' note found. If I go under options -> Advanced -> Applications and look by IM+ for Skype I also see the following files:

im_skype_images 1.07
im_common 1.30
im_common_utility 1.30

and if I go into the Modules section all I see is:

im_common_utility 1.30
im_skype 1.07
im_skype_images 1.07

There is definitely something wrong with the installation from the .alx file I think. Please advise.

Better, but not right

Okay, so I installed both the desktop service and the mobile client again from new downloads. At least the mobile client launches. Auto-Configurator wouldn't work so went in to manual configure, entered my Skype details and mobile phone just as it is in Skype Call Forwarding. Skype for desktop is definitely running, but get a "Bad Connect error, connection with Skype is impossible. Make sure that IM+ for Skype ......."

I have even turned off my firewall thinking perhaps it was blocking an incoming attempt but no luck. I put the IM+ in debug mode and here is the log:

0 debug thread:5148 11/25/06 07:18:34 .\UserManager.cpp 58 Hydra::CUserManager::Start started.
1 debug thread:5148 11/25/06 07:18:34 .\UserManager.cpp 145 Hydra::CUserManager::CleanUp started.
2 debug thread:5148 11/25/06 07:18:35 .\UserManager.cpp 186 Hydra::CUserManager::CleanUp finished.
3 info thread:2008 11/25/06 07:18:35 .\Threads.cpp 101 Hydra::CListerner::ThreadFunc Main thread started. listen :5333. SSL disabled.
4 debug thread:5148 11/25/06 07:18:35 .\UserManager.cpp 104 Hydra::CUserManager::Start finished.
5 info thread:1268 11/25/06 07:18:35 .\Threads.cpp 101 Hydra::CListerner::ThreadFunc Main thread started. listen :5334. SSL enabled.
6 info thread:1268 11/25/06 07:18:35 .\Threads.cpp 219 Hydra::CListerner::InitListenerSocket Socket listen begin
7 info thread:2008 11/25/06 07:18:35 .\Threads.cpp 219 Hydra::CListerner::InitListenerSocket Socket listen begin

It looks like all is okay. Please advise where to next?

Edit 1: I reloaded IM+ and to my joy it plays nicely with IM for Skype, although I did notice it downgraded the following applications: im_common and bb_connection_manager.

Edit 2:I just went through the Application Loader again and it now removed im_common under IM+ and now we are back to the same errors. Error starting IM_2_BES:Module 'im_common' not found and Error starting im_skype:Module 'im_common' not found. there is definitely something going on here with this module and it being different versions in IM+ and IM Skype. If I look at the applications in the Application Loader I see im_common under both IM+ and IM Skype. The one under IM+ is unchecked and under details it is version 1.2.8 and the version under IM Skype is checked and under details is version 1.3.0 but if you click the modules tab there are actually no modules in there. I noticed this because the file size was 0k. Under this is im_common_utility and that has a module so I think the problem is different names or something.

one problem. how do u make a phone call by typing in the phone number instead using contacts list? i dont see a dial pad anywhere.

vincentnyc 11-28-2006 02:15 PM

im using edge network, is that good for voice calling? or do i need evdo?

vincentnyc 11-28-2006 03:03 PM

i just tested the phone calling feature. but it is a no go...wonder if it has to do with my edge connection.

i think the way it work is using call forwarding in skype. when i tried to call someone in skype, my cell phone would ring. but i couldnt hear anyone or they couldnt hear me....i think the programmer may have a good idea going here...but the phone feature isnt working which is what i want the most.

HI,

I was able to install both the desktop and the blackberry client. It did deleted my paid IM+ version, but I downloaded again and it now works.

I've also been able to place a call to a Skype on a PC but heard a lot of echo everytime I said something.

Also does the software allow you to place calls to a landline as Skype does?

I have Skype landline entries but the "call" option is not available when you highlight?

Also would there be a dialpad so you can call any number?
