Hi.

We are planning to release our grocery list application for Java enabled BlackBerry devices end of next week.
With this application you can manage your shopping/grocery list.
We have prepared a shopping list with more than 200 item in different categories.
You can modify, add and delete items/categories.
You can use it with the trackwheel, or faster just by keyboard.....

Hope to get some feedback about the app and the usage pattern we anticipate.

You can download the application here:

Over The Air download ( < 50 KB):

ALX install files zipped:

Hi Markus,

Just grabbed it OTA to install on my Rogers Wireless 7780 Blackberry. A few comments so far as I'm going to start using it for groceries than my tasklist:

- On the main screen, it would be helpful to be able to delete items and categories just by using the delete key instead of pushing in the track key, scroll down to delete, pushing in the track key, and confirming. An options menu that contains preferences such as delete without confirmation would be great too.

- Ability to edit/create lists on the computer to import/export to the BB

I'll probably have a few more as I go though.

Thanks and good job so far.

Thank you for your feedback.

Only at the beginning deleting is a common task to customize your shoppling list to your needs. After a few days deleting is very unusual.
I feel uncomfortable with a destructive command at a prominent key (even with confirmation). But I will add it to our requested feature list.

Would you have used an a existing list to import from a PC or do you think customizing is more comfortable on a PC?

Hi,

Regarding deleting... I see it no differently than how I normally handle email messages on my BB. I have confirmation turned off on delete otherwise it'd drive me nuts within 2-3 messages needing to be deleted. It should be a user setting to make life easier. I've used a bit of the program but frankly the amount of deleting I'm doing right now to customize it to my needs prevents me from really using the system.

Customizing and/or importing lists would be much easier on the PC mainly to do with the fact that I can type about 500% faster on a normal keyboard and not have to deal with confirmations for deletion or changing options.

Cheers

Nifty program..... too bad I only have 3 things on my list, but yeah this beats writing things down and having to remember what I bought, now I can just mark it off.

I would second the request to be able to delete items in edit mode using the delete key (maybe with an option to turn confirmation on and off). While I understand that deleting will be rare once it is set up, you have to realize that the initial setup can be very tedious unless a user intends to use the lists and categories exactly as you have provided them.

It would also be nice to be able to perform +1 and -1 on items in edit mode by holding the option key and rolling the wheel (or make that page up/page down). The former would really help to speed up entry of needed items. I might have missed the keyboard shortcut for these...
