Strange. I have shortcut titles in my v2.1.2. The only reason I can think of that would prevent titles from showing up is if you are loading this on a 4.1 device. What kind of BB do you have?

Hello,

Has someone probed webshortcut in simulator (4.2)? Have you downloaded the last version with desktop link? I'm having the same problem already.

Thanks!

Have you run across this before? I really love your program, I'd just love to fix this issue. I was using a previous version before and it worked perfectly (Just without being able to name the shortcuts). As soon as I updated to 2.1.2 I started having the problem. Help please!!
I'm having the exact same trouble.. Was there a resolution for this?

I've had the same issue, and I've noticed that if I hit the menu key, the browser 'wakes up' and starts displaying the progress (or the page, if already loaded). Then I just hit escape to get out of the menu.

Kludgy, for sure, but it saves me from closing out of the browser and starting over.

These will be restored the first time you launch the shortcut after each reboot.

I've read this thread three times, so it's clear that I'm missing something. Sorry. First, I'm running 4.1.0.284 and that could be the problem, so I'm looking for confirmation.

I went to Jonathan's site, downloaded the utility and two web shortcuts OTA. When I click on either, I get an error message.

1. Do I have to upgrade the platform?
2. Am I incorrect in thinking that all of this can be done OTA?
3. If it can, then what the heck am I doing wrong?

P.S. Sorry for what I know is going to be revealed stupid questions.

What is the error? Have you tried setting up the shortcuts using the Shortcut Hub yet?

Unfortunately, I deleted the program after getting the hourglass. But, prior to the deletion, I tried to start with the Utility Hub and got the error message. I don't have the specific wording anymore, but it started out with error, had Jonathan's name and at the end, it said, out of memory.

Should I start over and try it again?

Thanks for the program. My home screen now includes blackberry forums link directly between viigo and espn. I'm still trying to figure out priorities.

It's up, just make sure you're typing the url in correctly. I was trying to go to m.jonathanfisher.co.uk rather than m.jonathanhfisher.co.uk for the longest.

new version:

http://northcubed.com/products/black...thshortcut.zip

usage:

create a directory in the root of your media card called 'shortcut':

/Media Card/shortcut/

extract the zip and put the config.xml file in the directory once you've set it up, for each shortcut you use put the url to link to and the title for the shortcut app:

<shortcut1>http://news.bbc.co.uk</shortcut1>
<title1>BBC News</title1>

Place a png in the directory for each shortcut titled in the format:

/Media Card/shortcut/shortcut1.png

There's now also ten shortcuts...

Please give me feedback and bug reports, i've not tested all ten shortcuts but they should be fine. if after a week there's no significant issues i'll put a proper release page up.

please note: there's zero support for this - it's free. there's no OTA install - if you use this internally at your company please please let me know so i can add a credit to our site.

cheers,
jon

w00t - new version.

I've always wanted to type 'w00t', but never really had a reason. Sheesh, I feel pathetic.

I'll get this loaded up and play around a bit. Thanks Jonathan.

This works very very well - gone is the earlier issue I had with the browser window not showing the page loading unless/until I hit the menu key then escaped out of the menu.

Pretty snappy performance overall. I like it.

I grumble a little over having to edit the config.xml on the desktop (unless I am unaware of a magical way to edit xml files on the device), but hey - it works and it's free, so I'm not whinging.

Yes, thanks Jonathan, I was having the same problems, delay in getting the shortcuts to open until I hit the menu key. All is well now, we definitely appreciate your development on this, it most certainly kicks ass! I'll work on an icon pack in Adobe, I know developers for such products as Simple Machines Forums have worked up icon packs for different SMF themes for example. It would be nice to have good icon packs to go along with this idea! Appreciate all those that have put their .png files out here so far in this thread! BB Forums is definitely on my Curve!

The root is the drive of your media card. For me it's drive "F" so I will add the "shortcut" folder to drive "F".

F:\shortcut

there will be when once this community has hammered it and found any bugs. there'll be a nice page with screenshots in a step-by-step guide. probably within the next week.

Wirelessly posted (BB 8703e: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8310/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Create the shortcut folder on the root, right beside your "BlackBerry" folder. Extact config.xml to the "shortcut" folder using Windows Explorer, accessing your memory card as a removable device. Install as many shortcuts as you want on your BB, using Desktop Manager's application installer. I edited my config.xml file in notepad, directly on my PC, right in the shortcut folder. The PNG images are direcly associated with the shortcut number, so your first shortcut's PNG is named shorcut1.png, the second is named shortcut2.png, etc. The PNG's need to also be stored in the shortcut folder alongside config.xml. The one thing I noticed, is that when I pull my battery, the PNG's don't stay associated until you click on them, then they refresh.
