BBWeather Released - BlackBerry Weather Software -
04-07-2005, 05:34 PM
For those people who needs to lookup weather quickly on BlackBerry:
Quote:
V0.74 Beta
* Initial revision BBWeather is an application that displays current and forecast weather conditions for the 7XXX series of Blackberry's (V4.0 of OS). Features include:
- Multiple profiles. Profiles are properties/options for a particular weather location. You can change profiles via shortcut key/menuitem which allows you to view weather conditions in multiple locations instantly
- Press SPACE or choose menuitem to change between Current Conditions screen and Forecast screen
- Forecast can range from 2-10 days per profile
- Units type per profile
- Uses the device font type and size
- Temperature fields are displayed in user definable colors
- Weather data is fully cached but is updated on user defined intervals and can also by updated instantly via menuitem Notes:
- There is no ability to lookup/search weather.com location IDs. Here's a site that provides this service or just use weather.com: http://www.aspnetresources.com/tools/locid.aspx
- This program uses TCP to communicate with weather.com. Please make sure your TCP settings are correct before using this software
|
Download BBWeather
Please Note: There are other excellent programs such as PocketDay and BBToday. They also do weather as a subset of their functionality such as displaying other status information (i.e. missed calls)

Does this download the data when you go to view it, or does it poll at some rate?

 Congratulations,
BBWeather is a great small tool, two and a half things missing:
- proxy authentication support in case you have to run via MDS Server
- I would like, to keep data traffic low, to be able to increase the repeat interval further high (not only 120 Minutes for Actual Conditions and 240 for the forecast)
- Lookup of the location ID inside the tool or a small other 'tool'

I simply love this program. But, every other time I attempt to update it, I receive the message "Error: Malformed Address. Returning null connection"
Does anyone else get this error? How do I stop it?
I am on Cingular, BWC, version 4.0, with a 7290.
Thanks!

I too have the same problem with this weather applet within BBToday or "could not open tunnel - max timeout". I don't have any problems with the weather applet within PocketDay so it must be a problem with this free applet. I get similar problems with the stock tracker within BBToday also. If I ask it to update a couple of times, it will work fine for a while, but automatic updating weather and stocks is hit and miss. Can't really complain though - the price is right!
I too have a 7290 with operating system 4. I use BES with Rogers.

This happens to me all the time but when it does, I manually click 'refresh now' and it usually never fails.....usually.

The only issue I have with BBToday, as with others, is getting max timeout or wrong DNS, which like others also is corrected by manually asking it to update. I have a 7290 running 4 on BES. I think it is just a delay issue in contacting and getting information back from the web site for updating of weather and stocks.
As stated on a different thread dealing with the new release soon of version 2 of PocketDay, I never get these issues with that program, but on the other hand, I think that the free BBToday does a much better job at handling stocks than the pay PocketDay. It does not look like there will be any changes to speak of in stock reporting in PocketDay 2.

It doesn't seem to handle all fonts correctly. When I had my font set to bbmillibank and size 6 the text was at least 2X smaller inside of BBweather than on the rest of my system. If I change the font to System it displays fine.

Hi, I am very new in this forum. But I found something interesting for your problem. Go to option>TCP and enter APN wap address for your carrier. It will work.

Right, but this is a problem after the TCP settings have been entered. I assume that it is some sort of software glitch because it loads and functions properly except for every other launch it will not update normally without the error message.

Yes, I know what you mean. I guess it is also based on the location where we are to pick up enough signal strength to get update. I configured the duration of 4 hrs and found quite OK. I realized it is unable to update when I am in the building or subway. I did not try BB weather yet. I heard BB weather is quite smooth.

How do I go about changing the location for weather in BBTODAY?
When I look into the options, it gives USTX1351 but what exactly does that mean? How do know what Location ID I have at my location?

You can either change it to a zip code (which works) or determine the index by trial and error the weather.com code. You start with Country+State+####. as in USCA0182 for Carlsbad California. Format is strict - country (two letter code)+state (two letter code) and 4 numbers, which is actually city index sorted alphabetically within the state.
Someone here also posted a link where you can enter a city and state and it will show you the weather.com code. I can't find it anymore.
Hope that helps

Subscribe to animated weather on BlackBerry -
09-30-2005, 09:46 AM
There's a cool weather app at http://mobile.blackberry.com.
You can subscribe to your favourite city as well. (You have to use the Internet Browser on your BlackBerry in order to be able to subscribe though).
Or, just to view weather, click on the 'News / Weather / Sports' link, select, 'AccuWeather' from the 'Weather' links, and search for your city.
The weather forecast is a 5 day animated SVG page. Be sure to view it on your BlackBerry, (not IE), in order to see the animated version.
Good luck,
Petey

For those who got the Could not find a service book entry for IPPP error, here's how to fix it (at least it worked for me).
In BBWeather, go to options and click Disable MDS Proxy.
That should hopefully work!

ok i went to check this out and it is showing up on my 7290 as text only - no animation and no images. i understand how all of the browser options work - yes they are all enabled with Blackberry emulation. why wouldn't the animation and/or images appear??

Its the browser, most likely. It has to be the HTML browser, not the WAP browser. (and HTML + WML must be turned on in the browser options). It also may be the software version running on your device. I think the weather will work on devices running 3.7.1 or higher...

I'm guessing that I have to set up my TCP settings for this to work?
Any notion of what such settings would be for T-Mobile (7290)?
Thanks.

Never mind, I found the "guide" answers. Also, I entered my correct settings, but it did not work until a rebooted my 7290. After that, success!
