Some use data and some use text messaging.... What carrier are you on and do you have an unlimited text messaging plan with that carrier??

i have t mobile but i dont care if it uses txt or not im just looking for a good aim program... on IM+ i am using the trail now and it doesnt seem to be very good for me ... it seems the messages take like 6 seconds to get back and fourth its not that instant as ramble.. but ramble for me doesnt vibrate when i dont ahve ramble open. i have the settings to vibrate but when someone sends me a message and ramble isnt open it asks me if i want to accept and doesnt vibrate which is pretty lame... anyways i like im+ but like i said its like it takes 6 seconds to receive or send the message. is it because its trial or what?

I use Google Talk, free, takes about 10 minutes to setup your AIM buddy list into the Google Talk one, but worth it.

I used Ramble for a few weeks, but it would log out by itself, frequently!

I'm a noob sorry, but yes I think it's something like that. I found the instructions here on the forum somwhere.

Used Psi to set it up, googled jabber networks, found one that worked nicely with AIM, and that was basically it. Only thing that annoys me sometimes, is talking to my AIM contacts when I am on the PC checking my GMail account. However, I can live with it.

I agree, ramble is very inconsistent. Will look into investing 10 minutes of my time soon, lol. Thanks!

I did a poll a while ago. The first poll I did, Yak-On was the most popular. When I did another poll Google Talk end up being the most popular.

Yak-On cost around $20 one time free while Google Talk is free.

You can not download and use Google Talk right away though, I believe you also have to download another program to get Google Talk to work with your AOL IM. Do a search here to find more information about it.

I have tried most of them, even sms text IM forwarding, and all the programs have their good and bad.

Some complain about the free OZ AIM/YAHOO/MSN IM program that comes with the Pearl but I have had 100x less disconnects with it than Ramble which is also free. Rarely if ever would Ramble stay connected for a couple hours let alone an entire day. OZ's problem is not the disconnects, it doesnt update often enough. I just always use the refesh option when I go to use it. People only seem to really prefer Ramble as it uses data and thats included free in BB plans. OZ uses sms which is extra for some BB plans.

IM+ is popular as it support ALL IM services but costs $50. I like this as it supports them ALL. It also has the most changeable settings and options.

EDITED NOTE: I deleted my negative comments about IM+ as it was a setup error. See my post below.

Yak-On I used many weeks ago for the short trial and cant remember much to be honest. I know I did not prefer it over IM+ or even the OZ AIM but really cant give specifics. I also need AIM and Yahoo which it doesnt support.

The hack for GoogleTalk does not work for everyone. You have to download multiple programs to your PC, start one do this and that and this and that and so on. I know a few myself included that gave up after a couple tries. I also tried both methods/programs in the article. Maybe my PC but I couldnt bother wasting any more time.

I use google talk, but the only thing that annoys me about it is that it won't show whether or not a certain user is on their phone... I don't bother IMing people with their stupid sms connections.

Ramble never keeps a connection, and it doesn't show what peoples' away messages actually say.

Yak-On has a great user interface.

I like the Google Talk setup though, because I can check away messages.

I need to make a correction to my comments about IM+. It turns out that the auto config program that sets ups IM+ on the first use does NOT always make the best selection. I was emailed from Shape and made a change they suggestion and now my IM+ is much better.

Still not 100% perfect but I have found from my testing of just about every Pearl IM program, none are 100%.

If anyone with IM+ has any password, reconnect or disconnect problems, check your connection method. If its is HTTP, try changing it to TCP/IP and do some trial and error testing with the "transport" method and "port" settings. You also need to make a change to the Pearls TCP setting. Took me about 15 minutes to try all the options and find the best one for me.
