Because it needs access to the phone so you can set it not to lock while your on the phone. Its not spying on you.

That makes perfect sense... and now that you point it out, it even seems obvious.

Thank you.

Metsfan:
I had downloaded the AutoLock software when I had my old software; 4.0, I think it was.
I recently upgraded to OS 4.2 for Blackberry 8100, and the AutoLock asked to access my phone logs. I didn't know, so I just chose no.
And it wouldn't work after that! I deleted the AutoLock off my 8100, and tried to reinstall, but the Application Loader keeps telling me, "No additional applications designed for your device were found".
Help?

I have nearly the exact same issue as Metsfan. I've tried deleting the app, reinstalling every which way. Yet, when reinstalling it never again gives me the option to acess phone logs. Install proceeds normaly, restarts, AutoLock is installed but unfortunately does not work . Set the permissions to default which cleared up the exception but still no joy. Help? Please?

Go to Options >Advanced Options >Applications. Click on AutoLock. Then hit menu and select "Edit Permissions." Then hit menu again and hit "Reset Firewall Prompts." then run autolock again

Default New Suggestion - 05-02-2008, 02:36 PM

Great Software!

I am not sure if this suggestion has been made but it would be nice to have another configuration as to whether or not to lock when the media player is running and if possible while media is playing.

Can a password be implemented into this? I have a user who wants to lock the phone down after the timer locks it out.

Ok, maybe I'm a moron but... how do you unlock the keypad once Autolock locks it? I don't see this detail on the Geek and Proud site or in this thread.

It's not on the Geek and Proud site because the device tells you how to unlock. Press * Send (Green phone button.)

Okay, I'm going a bit out on a limb here. I've owned my BB for a few weeks now and I really can't think of a reason to lock your keyboard while you are using the BB. I guess this could be useful if you kept your BB in a pocket or purse where you might autodial someone on your address list. Is there any other reason to lock the keyboard? Please be gentle... I know this must be obvious.

It's part of the password protecting feature. If you don't have a password on the device then it just locks and a simple unlock can be achieved. If you have a password then you have to enter the password after it locks. It's a security feature.

Personally, I use the standby feature instead of keylock.

Okay, well that helps a bit. I didn't mention this, but I understood about the password protection.

My confusion stemmed from my assumption that folks were locking their keyboards without invoking the password protection. I really can't see a reason for this so I didn't really see a reason for this nice little bit of software.

Like yourself, I don't bother with the keyboard lock or the password protection. I have just been using the standby function when needed. The only catch to this is that my BB does double duty as an iPod wannabe and I transmit music to my Bluetooth headphones when I'm cycling or working out. Since the standby switch is also the mute switch it can be tough to put my BB on standby and not mute the music.

Offtopic -
That 8gb MicroSDHC card can hold a LOT of music. My Curve has taken the place of my iPod for daily use.

Many do use keyboard lock with no password. Personally, I don't.

Wow, and I thought I saw some bad questions that could have been solved by the FAQ. This one...boy....maybe the poster should get a RAZR??

I lock without PW protection...I don't usually have anyone looking at my phone (only time ever would probably be a girlfriend, then I'd just delete/hide stuff), and I do the lock for when it's in my pocket.

Is this program any different from the AutoStandby program, also being discussed on BBF (and costs $5).
