go to SourceForge.net on your blackberry browser, then search for blackberry tools and refer to post 342 above. I used zip for location ID and I had to name the location; home city name whatever, and it works great. If you are on BIS make sure you check the box to 'disable MDS

good luck

Very cool (BBWeather). Put in my Zip as identifier and came right up. Appears to be formatted for the larger BB screens, as it scrolls over to view the entire display.

The BBToday app has issues on 4.2 devices. I wouldn't load it on the 8830. It occassionally will lock up the device.

Loaded BBWeather on my 8830, added a profile but it doesn't work for me.

Carrier: Sprint

When I turned off "Disable MDS proxy" I get this: "Error: Invalid url parameter"

But if it's on, it says this: "Error: Malformed Adress. Returning null connection"

What should I do? I tried adding internet.com for APN as suggested somewhere else, but it still doesn't work. With Disable MDS proxy, it just doesn't get info, with this error: "Error: Open tunnel -max timeout." If it's off, it displays same error as blank APN.

There shouldn't be any apn settings necessary for Sprint.

Did you check the profile and make sure you have the zip code in the Location ID field?

I tried city code. I tried zip code. So far, it doesn't work.

What's so odd is that it works for my brother with same settings I get malformed address error on.

Anyone know why I keep getting "malformed url" errors?

Well. I finally gave up and did a handheld wipe. It magically fixed this problem. It works perfectly now. No idea why... You should do same after backing up.

Default BBLight on 8120 Pearl - 01-26-2008, 11:22 AM

Is the current version of BBLight compatible with the 8120? I installed it as I want the backlight to stay on when the 8120 is charging in my car, however, the backlight just flashes on and off about once per second. Are there settings I need to make, or, does the app not work with this phone?

This thread would be a LOT more useful if the first page gave some clue of what each of these utilities does, or at least a link (or links) to said info. I tried the 3 links in the first post and none of them took me anywhere that had any obvious product descriptions.

The product is very self explanatory. BBLIGHT is a back light product
BBWEATHER a weather app

so on and so forth.

I'll grant you the BBWeather *seems* intuitively obvious. And after reading the first page of the thread, BBCorrector is pretty clear.

But, you think "BBLight" is OBVIOUSLY a back light product? And I am merely assuming that that means it turns the screen solid white, so you can use your BB as a sort of flashlight. But, without your 3 word description, my imagination can come up with several different possible ideas that might be named "BBLight".

As for BBToday and BBReply, again, I can think of multiple (potentially useful) things I could write software to make my BB do that I might think to call either BBToday or BBReply.

So, maybe I'm just really dense. I seem to have given signs of that already on this BBS. But, BBToday and BBReply are not explaining themselves to me.

Anyway, as I said before, this thread would be a lot more useful if the first post were, for example, edited to include a one-line description of each utility. It would have at least saved, ummm, lemme count 'em, 3 posts that still don't fully reveal all the answers.

Just an observation.

BBLIght allows you to turn the screen on without it timing out...like when plugged into a charger, certain times of the day, etc. It's not a flashlight program.

very strange. I have been around this site for several years and these programs have been available since before me and I have never seen anyone ask what they do or what they are. But hey to each his own. Good luck.

Maybe before they got taken down for copyright issues, the post providing links also indicated what the apps do? Dunno.

I still don't know what BBToday and BBReply do. I will go do some searching to figure it out. But, none of that takes away from the validity of the comment that "This thread would be a LOT more useful if the first page gave some clue of what each of these utilities does, or at least a link (or links) to said info."

Of course, by "useful", I meant to people who are new to this site (and maybe BlackBerrys in general) - i.e. the people that I think Sticky Threads are likely to be most targeted at.

John & Dawg: People either spend the time on their own to figure it out, or they ignore it and move on, or they take the time to install it and see what it does. (My favorite approach much of the time.)

But it's self-evident, I think, that a short description of each program at the start of the thread would be an improvement.

Imagine you've just wandered into a new forum in an area where you aren't very familiar or a newbie and there is a thread on some free software downloads...wouldn't you appreciate it if the post announcing the SW included a short description of what the SW does?

John/Dawg/Redflea: I swear I didn't mean to sound like a jerk with my first post.

It is obvious that you all put a lot of time and effort into making this site what it is - which is a fantastic resource of info for BB users new (like me) and old. I have learned a TON of stuff here in the 11 days since I got my Pearl and I am very thankful to you all for that.

My first post in this thread really was an attempt to be constructive without spending a lot of time 'splainin' myself. As Redflea said, I thought it would be self-evident once anybody looked at the situation from the point-of-view of a newcomer that some descriptions up front would be useful. I was just trying to raise awareness and show that I did at least try the links in that first post before throwing up my hands.

Anyway, my apologies if I gave any offense.

And Redflea, thanks for groking me and chiming in.

I don't usually grok strangers, but in this case I made an exception.

And I'm not a mod...I have nowhere near the experience, expertise, commitment, and patience to do so.

Thanks, JSanders, but I've been told I am very good at that without any help, when I want to be.

So far, I'd have to say I haven't been here long enough to want to offend anybody here yet.

Default Issue with BBWeather - 02-27-2008, 09:45 AM

Just installed BBWeather on my pearl but it says "Error: No Weather Profiles specified" and hangs the phone: I can't do anything with the keyboard. If I launch BD Manager and start Application Loader (even doing nothing) then the phone reset and I can use it again.

Problem is I do not know how to add this profile to BBWeather!

Stranges as BBToday work perfectly and especially the Weather forecast. But that's maybe the problem as I installed the 2 at the same time? I tried to remove BBToday and keep BBWeather only but still have the same problem.

Any idea? Thanks

I am running 4.2.1.109 from Rogers

Is there a version of BBWeather (or at least a way to configure it) to get it all on one screen, on the Pearl?

It seems the app was built for larger screens.

Thanks!
