Then it's something wrong with the apn. Either your plan doesn't support it, or it's incorrect.

Well that just sucks

But - I do kinda feel better if it is not something I did wrong or failed to do!

I will try to get with Centennial Wireless during the week and see if I can get it figured out.

Thanks John

hi!
I have installed BBWeather and BBToday.

I am using BBWeather with no problem disabling the Disable MDS Proxy checked, but about BBToday, it seams to work good with either the checkbox checked or not.

what is the corret setting for it? I would like to use the right correct setting for it..

Ps: it seams that BBToday does not save custom Options Plugin Slots positions.
have you find any solution for this?

thank you.

OK - I am back at it...

When I updated my OS to v4.5 - BBWeather showed up on my system. At least I think it is BBWeather? It has the BB logo in the top right corner when it opens up after clicking on the icon?

However the icon does not update regularly and will stay the same for 2-3 days??

I have been all up and down my BB system and have not been able to find any settings on how to fix this? The icon is still showing the moon and 33 degrees from 2 days ago.

I also have WeatherEye installed now and I do not have any problem with that program...

Any input would really be appreciated because even though WeatherEye works - It is a Canadian based program and I have to set it to a city about an hour away.

I had no problem with it,but I have to say that about BBToday I had to enable the firewall to let it work correctly.
That is the only way to edit its parameters.

Hope this could help.

I'm running AutoStandby (which is a great battery-saving ap) to have the BB go to standby instead of lock. I still want to have my BB lock when holstered and I want the ability to password protect, so I don't disable password protection. To ensure that I can turn my alarm (BBSmart Alarms Pro) off quickly, I figured that I could also use BBLight to disable lock when plugged in. However, it doesn't seem to work.

I find that after an extended period of time, lock kicks in.

I'm using the latest version of BBLight.. or I think it's the latest version... 1.85.

Thx to all for the great advice!

I use BBLight for the same reason - to stop the locking so I can easily disable BBSmart Alarms Pro in the morning. My version of BBLight is 1.87

If I upgrade my BB8100 OS all my BBWeather and BBToday settings get lost!
How can I prevent this from happening?
Is there a way to backup the settings before an OS upgrade?
Thank you.

No, there is no way to backup the information. It is not stored in one of the databases that is backed up.

Any chance of BBLight adding an option for BlackBerry Messenger messages? I've browsed the API and it looks possible but my Java skills are pretty lacking.

What API do you think handles it? If it's there, I will certainly try and add it.

This would be great if you could add BB messenger as an option.

Can you do reminders also? Drives me nuts i have to pick up my phone and touch key in order to read the reminder on screen.

Thanks.

New version of BBlight is available for testing...Compiled with JDE v4.21, so any OS version greater than v4.21 should work. I am using it on a Bold with v4.6.0.234

OTA
http://www.tateu.net/software/bb.php?f=bblight_prvw

Desktop
http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightdt_prvw

Source
http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightsrc_prvw

v1.90 changes

1) Added option for simultaneous vibration and ringing on incoming phone calls. For it to work correctly: edit the profiles for "Phone" and set them to tone only and in the BBlight options screen, set the "Vibration Count for PhoneCalls" to something greater than 0. You can also set the vibration duration and the time between vibrations in milliseconds.

2) Added 4 options for SMS and Email which determine whether or not the Message application is opened when a new email or SMS is received:
--a) Never
--b) Only on Homescreen
--c) Never while on phone call
--d) If idle more than XX seconds

3) Removed "Keep Device from Locking" option. It did not seem to work.

Some things to be aware of:
The vibration and ringing feature is experimental and doesn't work quite like I want it to. I couldn't find any way to get the active profile from the BB device. This means, that if "Vibration Count for PhoneCalls" is greater than 0, it will always vibrate on incoming calls, even when your profile is set to Off.

There have been a few user requests for monitoring BBMessenger, but that does not appear possible according to a BlackBerry Development Advisor (details are here).

I will also look to see if it is possible to monitor "reminders."

Developers of VibAndRing, BuzzMe etc have the same issue. I believe the RIM APIs are very restrictive concerning what you can/cannot do with profiles.

Many thanks for v1.90

I think I fixed the above. New version 1.91 available to try at the same links:

OTA

Desktop
http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightdt_prvw

Source
http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightsrc_prvw

v1.91 Changes

For simultaneous vibration and ringing - added BBlight to the standard device profiles. Now you can set BBLight to vibrate or not to vibrate for phone calls using the standard device profiles. And when your profile is set to off, BBlight will not vibrate. To correctly set up simultaneous vibration and ringing:
--a) In your active device Profile, set BBlight to Vibrate and Repeat Notification to None, Number of Vibrations = 1
--b) In your active device Profile, set Phone to Tone
--c) In the BBlight application, set "Vibration for Phone Calls" to something other than 0.

To turn off simultaneous vibration and ringing for a specific profile:
--a) In that device Profile, set BBlight to None
--b) In that device Profile, set Phone to None or Tone Only

To completely disable simultaneous vibration and ringing:
--a) In the BBlight application, set "Vibration for Phone Calls" to 0.
--b) And you can do the following but don't really need to
----In your active device Profile, set BBlight to None

I am testing a version now that turns on the light when Tasks and Calendar items are triggered. If all goes well, it should be available in a few days to a week.

New "official" release of BBWeather, v0.83. There are two versions, one for OS 4.2 and above (without WiFi) and one for OS versions 4.3 and above (with WiFi). The OTA link should hopefully autodirect you to the correct download for your OS and the desktop install contains a folder for each version.

OTA
http://www.tateu.net/software/bb.php?f=BBWeather

Desktop Install
http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=BBWeatherDT

Also, there is an alpha version available which will always be updated with whatever version I am currently using/testing/debugging on my own device.

* Added hourly forecast screen and options.
* Added option to choose what font is used for the temperature on the homescreen,
* Other small internal changes.
--Removed never finished quick forecast screen code.

--Added options for:
----Auto
----BES (Same as old type with "Disable MDS Proxy" unchecked)
----BIS (new)
----Local TCP/APN (Same as old type with "Disable MDS Proxy" checked)

----Close, Exit, Ask User.
* Fixed device lockup on newer BB's with trackball when no profiles existed.
* Added options to update Homescreen icon with weather data.
* Added option to autostart when device is booted.
* Added menu item to the profile section to lookup location id based on City Name.
* Started working on a new quick forecast screen, never finished, but most of the code is still there.
* Updated weather icons with larger (in size and resolution) icons.
* Other small internal changes.

Yikes...Big bug in BBLight v1.93 that that caused any of the "Keep Backlight on" (User is Active, Out of Holster, External Power) options to fail. Not sure how I missed it. I was so intent on getting the phone ring/vibration and Calendar/Task notifications working that I just, plain missed this.

Anyway...v1.94 (OS v4.0 and above) available at the same links:

For the alpha test releases, you can't. For the v0.83 OTA download, if your Blackberry internet browser is set to Blackberry emulation and you have an OS version less than v4.3 it is supposed to direct you to the non-wifi release and if your OS is v4.3 or above it directs you to the wifi download.

If it is not working for you, the best way would be to download and install with Desktop Manager.

Thanks

I don't have a Storm to try it on, but while debugging it in the Storm simulator, incoming phone calls never trigger BBLight's vibrate notification. I'm not sure what's going on but it appears that RIM changed something in the Storm OS that broke my code.

bbweather 0.83 slows my bold to a crawl. Anyone else seeing this? It's also not showing in the application switcher. Tried reinstalling but it didn't help.

Nothing like that here...though I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "slows my bold to a crawl." And if it's not in the application switcher, that means it isn't running, which makes it unlikely that it could be slowing down your device.

By default, when you press the Escape key from inside BBWeather, it exits the application with System.exit(0). If you have "Enable HomeScreen Update" checked, before it exits, it will add itself to the system scheduler to run again in "Current & Homescreen Poll Interval (mins)." But for that "interval," it is completely closed and has no effect on your device's performance. When that "interval" has elapsed, the system scheduler will run BBWeather, which will download current conditions, update the homescreen icons, reschedule itself and exit.

If you want it left running in the background, choose "Close" from the menu or, in the options screen, set the action of the Escape key to "Close."

I have it set to close/minimize on escape on my 8900. However, I have noticed that when I check the application switcher, it's not there.

Hmm, just tried it setup like that on my Bold and it's there. Maybe there is something wrong with my code specifically for an 8900? I'll see about getting an 8900 simulator up and running in the next few days and check it out.

False alarm on the slowness. I think the device started re-indexing my music after the reboot to install bbweather. It finally sorted itself out.

Gotcha on the app switcher. I didn't realize the default was to exit.

Default BBlight 1.95 _Awesome upgrade! - 03-25-2009, 09:38 AM

Hey there,

Just wanted to say great thread and job at making this needed utility far more functional and versitile with the added options. I love it.

Now I don't have to fight with Google Maps or other unattended apps when I want the backlight to stay on.

* * * * *

Question: Does the option "except when clock is in the forground" apply only to the open home screen and today screen of any given theme?

BBLight is one of my favorite applications. It partially addresses my biggest complaint about the BlackBerry, which is the annoying behavior of the screen back light constantly turning off. For the Palm OS, there are applications that can extend the back light timer beyond the stingy 2 minute limit. 20 minutes seems about right for me.

Is it possible to add a timer extension function to BBLight? I looked at the source code, but Java really intimidates me.

Error: No Weather Profiles specified

Where can I change the weather profile? There are no options
