Lightbulb New Beyond411 3.9 released - 03-17-2007, 05:51 AM

Beyond411 v3.9 (formerly Berry411) is now available. The new features are a much cleaner look and feel and the restoration of the address book integration feature in a way that should compatible across all phones.

You can download over-the-air from http://thebogles.com/b411.jad or upgrade using the “About/Upgrades” menu item.

Hmmmm....Phil, I've got 3.87 installed, clicked About/Upgrades and did the upgrade however it still shows "Berry411" and nothing looks different. I do About/Upgrades again and it still says I'm on 3.87. I try to download again but it says I have 3.90, and asks if I wish to "replace 3.90 with 3.90". I know I can probably uninstall (that may be my only option) but I don't want to lose my history and my plugins. Any advice? And I have pulled the battery. Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Update: I tried to delete Berry411 through Advanced Options but I receive a message saying it can't be removed and that it is required through IT policy. What's up with that?? Certainly my BES admin isn't doing anything with Berry411. Any ideas? Thanks!

So that's the official name? Beyond411? Catchy! Maybe we'll call it B411 for short, that way only us charter users will know the code...

The biggest problem I have with the newer version of B411 is that the autocomplete takes so long to load cause it's downloaded as you type that it's useless. If I want to find "compusa" for example, it's easier to type compusa than wait for the "com" to bring up compusa.

Seem's that the downloading part of the function makes turns it into a useless feature. I liked when it used to be instant. Sure the auto complete list had a smaller library of words, but it was at least useful then.

Good catch, the newly available 3.91 fixes that regression. It uses both the local autocomplete dictionary plus the network autocomplete.

Default Name Address city state - 03-18-2007, 04:00 PM

Phil,

With the new download, when entering locations, it will allow address but then only city, state OR zip on the next line. There does not appear to be a way to enter city and state and zip. I have tried adding all three on the line after the city, state or zip prompt but that does not allow me to do a white page search.

Does this version support the ability to set your current location (for searching) to an entry in your address book? There was some discussion recently about eliminating that feature, and if it is gone, I will have to weigh if the loss of that capability is worth the upgrade.

Thanks

Yes, version 3.9+ restores that ability and has all other features of past versions.

White pages searches require city, state and won't work with zips at all. This should be fixed at some future point.

The wife called me today just as I left the job. Said she was craving fish. I did a yellow page for Black Eyed Pea and gave them a ring. Food was ready when I got there. Life is good... Thanks Phil.

Hmmmm.... Used to be I would search from my home location (Cambridge, Ontario) and get local results for yellow pages (White Pages NEVER worked). Now searches get me results in California and Kansas. Where is the Canadian love! This app for me was a staple. Now it is relegated to "hidden status". Damn shame because it just plain rocked before.

You should find that Canadian addresses are working correctly now. (They were pretty much working previously, but you had to use the two letter province abbrevation rather than the full name, now either works.)

Catchy name

Thanks for all your efforts, Phil, this is a PRICELESS application. I'm sure I'll be using a lot on my upcoming trips to California, Texas, and Florida.

EDIT: What happened to the Search Tools that was available in previous versions (I think that's what it was called). I used that all the time to 'optimize' webpages.

Phil - What countries does Beyond411 work in? Just US and Canada? Will it work in Europe, Asia, Latin America, or Austratilia?

I absolutely love the (Berry411) Beyond411 app but have noticed something weird. When I search for example, "weather:new york city" the results always come back to my home location of San Francisco. I've tried different searches and different cities but all the replies come back specific to SF. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I just downloaded this app, and I think it is going to rock! I do have a quick question though. To search for a listing in another city, do you just type the city and state after the listing in the search box? When I tried this, it would not give me driving directions from my Home to the location. The driving directions just started in the city where the listing was. Thanks for helping a newb!

I have been testing this program along side InfoSpace FindIt and both seem to give different results than the other during some searches. One is great with one search and the other better in another. A couple examples.

B411 was exact when I search for "American General" near my house while FindIt listed it much lower in the results.

During another search FindIt shows all the restaurants near my house where B411 missed the closest one or two.

They both have similiar maps and directions but FindIt also speaks them.

When I had some of the previous versions installed I always got the option to "lookup" phone numbers with Rphone whether they were from my missed cals list, attached with e-mails or sent to me via text, with this new version I know longer see this option when I highlight a number. Maybe I am doing something, I don't know. ANy thoughts?

Beyond411 now uses the Yahoo yellow pages web service for business lookups, FYI. It should have the same strengths and weaknesses.
