Thumbs up jivetalk - 06-03-2007, 05:01 PM

Just purchased the full user license for $29.95 it is well worth it. This program is worth every penny and people should run for this offer while you don't need a yearly subscription. Thanks again JiveTalk has been great and alot friendlier to use than the others. I can't wait for the myspace feature.

Has anyone else received any "pop up" error messages with JT 1 ? I started receiving about a paragraph long pop up error message. The error message is about as long as this first paragraph.

I dont know if its JT 1 or the new bubbles chat style. I never received this error before version 1 and am now trying another chat style to see if it is the bubble style or not.

So far so good. It looks like I only get the error message I mentioned above with the new bubbles style on the Pearl.

If I buy a device license, can I upgrade to user license later? Just in case my new bb doesn't have msn integrated... It should be like an call option...

It is from the first post

"In summary, a device license is a perpetual license tied to a single device, non-transferable, whereas a full user license is a perpetual license tied to the user and full transferable across devices."

The question is, Is the device key upgradeable?

Currently the device key is not upgradable. So if you need to use the software on another device (unless it's a defect replacement), you'll need another license.

I think I may have discovered a bug. Let me know if it is just my device.

In the Preferences, I have 'login with last status'checked.

This feature does not seem to work. I have tried it a few different ways (forced shutdown, log-out the back in, last status checked and unchecked, every scenario I can think of).

I do have it set to a custom status (On My Blackverry), could that be the problem?

Love the application, let me know if this is something that I am doing wrong.

Default Preview Build for JiveTalk v1.0.1 Available - 06-17-2007, 11:19 PM

In the spirit of continuing to gather feedback from our users, we have made a preview of our upcoming 1.0.1 build available.

This next release is primarily devoted to file transfers, currently supporting transfers for AIM and ICQ only. You can transfer files (send or receive) with any other AIM client that supports native AIM file transfers (AIM desktop, Trillian, iChat, etc.). There is a limit of ~ 512 k per file if you're using BIS transport, there are no limits if you're using TCP.

The readme for this preview build explains what's involved:

Because of OS and device limitations. The preview build is for 8100, 8300, and 8800 series devices only. Those are the only devices with the required MicroSD card and 4.2 OS capabilities.

If you have one of the above devices and are interested in trying the build, please point your browser to beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging. There is also a link to the preview download from the main download page on our website.

No, you cannot. The internal upgrade is for production releases only. We will probably run 1.0.1 as a preview and try to incorporate public feedback into the final 1.0.1 build. Once the production version is released, you'll be able to upgrade from within the app.

Am I correct in assuming that the final v1.0.1 release will run on ALL currently supported devices as opposed to just the 8100, 8300, and 8800 for the beta?

That's correct. The final 1.0.1 version will run on all devices, but the file transfer feature will only work on the 8100, 8300, and 8800. We didn't include builds for other devices in the preview because of the lack of MicroSD support.

This App Is The Best!!

It would be great if you guys could add to future version, that when you get a call and the app looses connection, that you wont get logged off AIM, and when the call ends and it reconnects to your server, we could get all the IM. So basically, you don't get logged out of aim not matter what unless you select log out from within the application. I'm sure this is not something really difficult to do, maybe some minor changes in the server end and wola.

Seems recently when only logged into googl talk my 8100 just goes to a white screen and locks up. And when logged into all of them, my screen seems to either get really dull or just has all weird color scheme all the sudden. I have not added any new software recently, just thinking only program is that free color pearl one that might be doing this. Other than that, I don't know.

Oh and I removed the free color pearl program, then the problem exposed itself, but I cannot say this is the direct reason.

Currently we have a 10 minute timeout. So if the server doesn't hear from the client for 10 minutes, we log you off the IM server session. Once the call ends, the client will automatically reconnect to the server and re-login to all your existing sessions. All missed messages while you were on the call, if received by the server, will be delivered at this time.

I don't find that the client will reconnect if you have been on the phone for a long call, ie. 20 min or more. Is that a bug or is there some other issue that I need to look at on my 8800c?

It shouldn't be that way. We don't retry forever, so if the call is longer than an hour or two, then it doesn't always reconnect.

20 minutes sounds way too short however. What happens? Does the titlebar just stay gray forever or does the client actually show you being logged off.

If the titlebar is gray, try turning the radio off and back on. We have seen this problem on the 8800 before.

Wow, after having it only for less than a week, of trying the Jive Talk software, I decided to purchase it tonight, despite having IM+ as well which is definitely not as polished and as well thought out as Jive Tak.

It works from the get go, without "weird" errors, it does everything with a flair and the software is amazingly smooth, and has great features already in 1.0 - Love, love the option to be able to sign into multiple accounts of the same..

Congrats, looking forward to many more great upgrades and enhancements!

Cheers,
R.

Jivetalk keeps disconnecting on me and its gettin really annoying. Sometimes it doesnt even connect at all. I'd expect for a application that i had pay for to not have such a serious problem.

When will Skype be supported in Jivetalk?
The AIM client works really well. Skype would make this program the best chat client. Thanks

I have been using Jive Talk for about 15 days now (with the free trial) and I have made some observations that bug me about this software and may prevent me from actually purchasing a full license for this product:

First off, it seems to take up too much free memory or bandwith from the phone to keep updating the buddy list constantly. I see this as a good and a bad thing.
The perks are obvious but the downsides are big set backs.
For a phone that doesn't have much memory to begin with, jivetalk consumes a lot of that while typing within the client, and outside of the client.
This prohibits me from writing long winded responses (which i enjoy greatly ) and limits me to short responses in splits of a few words (which also seems to slow up my device because of the graphic memory dedication)

Secondly, My yahoo account still does not work and I've been trying to fix this since I subscribed to the free trial. This would also stop me from buying based on the fact that I use yahoo a lot as well.

I hope these can be addressed in future releases or maybe an alternative can be presented to me.
Thanks hope this helps in some way...

I know its a hassle. It may be an authentication issue with yahoo. Setup a different yahoo password temporarily. I can se it as a JT issue

Default Not changing to idle status - 07-13-2007, 04:01 PM

I've seen a few messages in this thread mention that it is not updating your status to idle. I only installed the software the morning, and this is the only thing so far that has me concerned. I know I have it set to consider me idle after 10 minutes, but this never happens.

Otherwise, this is one truly slick program. Maybe I am in the honeymoon phase, but this program truly has me excited, as it is intuitive, polished, and well-featured, and makes me so much happier to use my Pearl. Over the next week, I can assess its stability, how well it stays connected, and how resource-intensive the program is with the rest of the software.

Impressive 1.0 release.

Thanks,
Doug

JiveTalk said they will start testing a version which includes Skype in about a month. I wonder if it will include Skype voice too, or just text.
