Default New RSS reader for Blackberry devices - 05-07-2005, 05:57 PM

I just purchased and downloaded Newsclip from Handango. so forgive me if this has already been addressed previously.

Very slick application!

I can see that this will occupy a significant amount of time when sitting idle in meetings, airports, waiting rooms, restrooms, you name it!

Besides news, there are a ton of other sources of info that provide RSS feeds now. Yahoo Groups have the option to provide RSS feeds.

Great job, Handango! Easy setup, no headaches. Worked from the git-go!

I love the software as well. However, it was released about 3 months ago... with the author promising updates to the software that never materialized. Although many feeds do work with the program... RSS 1.0 (RDF) or Atom feed don't work. There have also been some compaibility problems with feeds it's supposed to work with that were never addressed. I loved the trial, but found that some of the feeds I loved weren't compatible. Once the company shows it plans to update the software, then I'll buy it.

Default Newer version out, but not updated on Handango's site? - 05-07-2005, 10:58 PM

Check the postings on this thread, which seem to indicate that there was an older version (that you tried perhaps?) that has been upgraded. I'm not positive, but it would seem so...

By the way, my Newsclip version is 1.0.26-CP

Default Newsclip 1.1 - 05-13-2005, 03:22 PM

Just following up on this thread to let you know that Newsclip 1.1 has been released, here's the thread I posted:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=8347

CINCNORAD: We really worked hard to try to make the feed parsing much more robust and support more feeds. It now supports RSS 1.0 (RDF) and Atom, and we've tried to improve handling of the previously supported feeds. Ironically there are a lot of non-conforming feeds out there, so we had to try to be a little less strict in our handling, and do funny things to make sure we could pull the content in. Let us know if it improves your experience with the product, and let us know if it still has problems with any feeds.

PCW: I'll 'fess up on those missing links--when we originally released we realized that we didn't put in the references to Handango in the product as we were required by our Handango contract (they gently reminded us of this), so we pulled those versions and quickly replaced them with versions that did include the Handango references. It was our fault, and that's why there was some confusion with the links. I just wish Handango would get rid of the URLs that point to the old versions of the product (I can't seem to delete them).
