Lightbulb BlackBerry Empower - Need Alpha Testers - 06-13-2007, 02:19 AM

Hi All,
We are working on a set of software tools for blackberry. The first version will be available for alpha testing within a few days. And I will need some alpha testers for the same.

The requirement will be OS 4.2 or higher and SD Card. We will give preference to people with technical background for alpha 1.

Only 2-3 people will be required for the first cut, so that we can iron out the silly bugs before opening the alpha to other users.

It is a work in progress and a lot of things will be added in due course. At present it supports:
  1. Mail Folders
  2. Rule based filtering
  3. Spell Checking
  4. HTML View

Screen shots are available at http://www.getempower.com/

PM me if you are interested.

PS: SD Card is preferred but not actually required for this version. However, some of the tools that we are developing will depend on it. Not having a SD Card will simply reduce their functionality.

I would be willing to test this out. I would love the spellcheck as you type feature. I have a 8830 4.2.66 w/ BES for work email and BIS for yahoo mail. Would love to separate out the two as well. Are you planning on doing any other enhancements such as rule based color text? I know this might be asking for alot but would be a nice feature if included, not even sure if its possible. Keep up the good work though.

Rick, as I can see on their website both of these features are already there in Empower Email. I have requested a beta and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Looks as if it has got even more features than zainy products.

You will need to checkout their website to see the stuff for yourself.

Be glad to take a look. Sure do wish you would find some way to take advantage of the SD card such as saving attachments to emails but understand that seems not to be technically possible.

Thanks for the interest everybody.

I am cleaning up the code to enable easy install and expect to ship it to the first two alpha testers by tomorrow evening. If the installation goes fine with them, would release to more ppl soon.

I would love to help test it out once you get to the next stage (seeing as you have all the testers you need right now).

This program looks very interesting!

IS the final app going to be for OS 4.2 or higher only? If so, it seems kind of limiting.

The current version runs only on 4.2 & above. We did it so as not to have different codebase for SDCard and Non-SDCard blackberries. Also, 4.2 OS is available for a lot of older devices and would be available soon for others.

But I currently own a 8707g, and want this to work on it. So rest assured, you will see a 4.1 version pretty soon

I have emailed the alpha to two people. Once we ensure that the installation and basic functionality works fine, I would open it to more people.

There have been too many PMs that I have received. And I am sorry I could not respond to all of them.

Default Alpha-1 Released.. - 06-14-2007, 07:51 PM

Thank you everyone for your interest in alpha.. We've been surprised by the amazing response! Thank you ALL!

As Adwiv outlined in his post above, if things go fine with alpha, we will open it to more people. Here's what the Communicator looks like in action at the moment..
  • Folders - Communicator bring the concept of FOLDERS back to the forefront. For long, we have been using folders and all popular email systems support it. And this is what I missed dearly in my Blackberry. Well no longer. Here is a snapshot, of how it looks on my device.

  • Rule Based Filters - If Folders are here, can Rules be far behind! Communicator supports rule based filtering so now you have emails from your Boss into Office folder, and that from your Wife & Kids in Family folder.

  • Auto Spell-check - Communicator has a 'spellcheck-as-you-type' facility. Since its easier to mistype on a small device like BlackBerry than on a PC, hence Auto-Spellcheck is intended to be your friend in helping you with mis-typed words.. Here is snapshot of Autospellcheck in action.

  • HTML View - Last but not the least! This one is pretty obvious - anti-aliased fonts, beautiful typefacing, images, alignment and links.

Please note, Communicator is a work in progress, and one of the tools we are working on. We are trying our best, and things can only improve from here..

We did dev. work for them and also bought a copy of their crm application. Also we are not a company (yet), just a bunch of guys getting together to do something useful and if possible, free... Yet to be registered formally..

Hi Everybody,
The install went fine the first two alpha users. They already have a few suggestions which we would implement and then release the application for more people.

It has been working flawlessly with most options but I can find the "Folders". Also will LexSpell interfere? I'm not getting spell check feature. thx

Thx

thanks lowrider.. we are working on a component-based model, that means everything including the Folders, SpellCheck etc. are components.. The real benefit of components is that i can choose exactly what feature i want installed on my device, and what i dont want. So that your device gets less overloaded with features you DONT want!

The first component HTML Email Viewer enters beta today and we are following it up at this thread here - http://www.blackberryforums.com/afte...ewer-here.html

for the benefit of everyone on this forum, we will continue with all future posts there in a single thread..
