Hello Ani. Thanks again for an excellent application. I use the full header option, or rather the "Q" shortcut quite regularly. I also read a lot of my emails by using "Next Unopened Item" or "Previous Item" selection so that I don't have to go back to the main messages window. I notice that there is no "Date" in the header, only Using, Folder, To, From and Subject. Would it be possible to add "Date" as well on the next update?

Thanks,

Tony

Ani, I have a question about upgrades. Once we buy Empower, or get it from one of the free licenses, do we get all future upgrades free as well? In other words, how long does each license last? Current release and all future upgrades? Or just the current Major release.

This is not to be confused with updates which should always be free.

sh8kin7,

A license is a license. Whether you get it for free, at a promotional price, or you have purchased the license has no bearing to the rights it brings alongwith it.

Once you have a registered copy, you are at the same standing as all other registered members. This means if an upgrade is free for registered members, it will be free for you. If an upgrade is paid for registered members, it will be paid for you.

A registered member is a registered member (irrespective of how you get the license - a free copy or a purchased copy.)

Hope that helps answer your question.

Thanks.
Ani.

Hey Ani, I just thought of a nice option you could add since it would be able to be changed by user:

Currently on the header you have Using, Folder, To, From and Subject. It would be nice if you could put ALL of the options that are on the normal email, but allow users to pick which ones show up in the empower options. It would make the software customizable. Some people may not want the "To:", or some people may not want to see something else. Just a thought? Doesnt sound that difficult to implement too

Question 07-06-2007, 12:55 PM

I'm having a little problem with the viewer, and hope someone will be able to help. I successfully installed empower viewer and everything seems fine until it tries to load the images in the email. I get message saying:

"The application net_rim_bb_messaging_app has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."

I dont even have an IT Policy (that I know of anyway) since I'm on BIS. Is there any work around? I've tried other viewer programs in the past and haven't seen this message before. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

seems your network has filtered those images.
are you able to open those images with your browser.

if not. I don't think the email viewer can open that ..

Hi,

Yeah, I can open the images using my browser, just not within the mail viewer. I don't think my carrier is filtering them out since I have been able to see all the images in emails using other viewers. Any other thoughts?

Is it that the images which you can't view are from particular places like ebay etc.. I think Empower has some issue with ebay mails and some others as well. Lets wait for a fix

Crupp, image display depends on various factors. As you know emails that reach your device get stripped of HTML tags when they pass through the RIM servers. Empower tries its best to reconstruct these tags using the left-over information. If RIM strips an images completely, there is no way Empower can show it because unfortunately its just not there - was taken away even before it reached your device. Some members had some discussion specific to ebay emails here -

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...l-problem.html

Also, if you are on BES images loading may depend on the BES network policy.

At our end, I can get Gmail alerts good, Yahoo news good. But as said, it really depends on the information left by RIM in ur email and the BES settings. We are working on them trying to improve further.

Ani.

I think I have found a bug. When I go to reply to an email message, and I click the option in the menu to clear original text, it doesn't work. The "converted" html remains.

I am using a bb 7250 on verizon with os 4.1.

Is there a way to choose which transport Empower connects to in order to access the internet (TCP, BIS, WAP, etc.)? I've had other programs that give me these type of error messages...after reconfiguring which transport they connect to, I havent had any further problems/errors. Thanks!

Default Doesn't work with Lotus Notes - 07-06-2007, 02:25 PM

I know the subject "Doesn't work with Lotus Notes" could describe most every piece of software out there but here it goes again.

I have an email with graphics from DELL telling me they shipped me my order and when I view it through my Lotus Notes BES account it only shows the text of the email just like a stanadrd blackberry email. When I forward the same email to my gmail account and then view it on the same Blackberry all the pictures show up just fine. Is there a solution or is this going to be like all the other vendors who stare at me incredulously and gasp "I can't believe you haven't migrated away from Lotus Notes years ago." Sigh.

skippy, as of this version there is no way to choose transport connection. We will see if we can include that as an option in an upcoming version.

Ha ha. So Empower also falls in the 'Doesn't work with Lotus Notes' ? How does your DELL mail comes out with EMV ?

When I use EMV on the Lotus Notes email it only shows text. When I use EMV on the same email that was forwarded to GMail it looks great with pictures and text.

Yes trevor, thats right.

On Delete Original Text checked, we did clear the original text but we were not updating the view. That is why it was still visible, although when you sent it, it wasn't there. This has been fixed in the forthcoming release.

Thanks.

Great.

One feature that I would love to see is auto update. Or even an update option in the menu. That way I don't have to navigate to the site every time a new version is released. I don't know if this is possible or not, but it would be awesome.

Not sure if this is something with the new release or if it's always been there but I have noticed that when using the page down shortcut key, it goes one line too far. I then have to scroll up one click in order to read the line that should have been the top line. I am using a 7130 with 4.1 software if that makes a difference.

Default Probable bug - 07-09-2007, 01:55 PM

Hi Ani,

I was unable to use my computer this past week while on vacation. In all of my emails there was a notice that a new version of Empower Email viewer was available and it gave a link that did not work. Whenever I clicked on it, I got the reply that that web page was inaccessible or not working. I could get to Get Empowered through my bb browser which would allow me to purchase the app on my blackberry but it would not get me there by the link in the email. I now have computer access and have downloaded the 30 day trial waiting on my license.

The update notice is great but it will be better when the link works!!

Arrow Empower Mail Viewer Version 2.0 Released ! - 07-09-2007, 05:13 PM

Hi All,

Okay Finally. We have (yet) another upgrade to version 1.1 - Actually we had a release version 1.2 ready and done, but before we could get it out of the door, we were ready with another major upgrade! So if you had to wait a bit longer than you expected, you know the reason. Anyway, here is announcing Empower Mail Viewer Version 2.0 !

Enhancement:
  • Force Use TCP/IP Option
  • Space key on Suretype devices to scroll up/down
  • Incoming PIN Messages shows correct "Using" field
  • Date is now shown in headers
  • From Field is clickable
  • Default Sent via Empower Signature (Can be turned off under Advanced Options)
  • Delete original text will delete the HTML view as well.

Important:
The most important enhancement in this version is image display that we are constantly improving with every version. In the same direction we have now included a feature called 'Force TCP/IP'.

The reason why some people are having trouble getting images to display has to do with:

1. The connection you are using: Those on BES may be restricted by their company's firewall. or IT policy. Or Both.
2. Incorrect APN settings: Another common cause may be that APN is incorrectly set. If you are having difficulties displaying images, please check that your APN Settings are correctly set on your device under Options/Settings > Advanced Options > TCP

APN settings for major carriers are provided in this thread at Pinstack -

http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...t_carrier.html

(I am sure there would be a similar thread here, but I couldn't seem to find it!)

Correct APN settings should insure that you get to see most of the images. However if you still have issues, you can turn on 'Force TCP/IP' and Empower will use TCP/IP to retrieve Images for you.

License Updates:
We finally stole some time off the development and are ready with the system for generating FREE Licenses. Just after making this post, we will start sending out emails - first to the first 500 people - just to ensure that license setup goes fine with them. If everything goes well, we will send license to everyone else who had registered during the Beta. Given the number of total emails to be sent, the whole process may take upto one day.

Please update your copies to Empower HTML Mail Viewer 2.0 from the links below:

OTA: http://m.mobylo.com
PC-DM: http://www.mobylo.com
User Guide: http://m.mobylo.com/EMV_FAQ_070708.zip

Thanks.

Thanks for a new 2.0, Ani. Some quick feedback on an 8100 / 4.2.0.73 OS:

- I just got the 'Too Many Threads' crashing error resetting up my preferences. It happened while I was in the font list, I had scrolled all the way to the bottom then back up towards Cursive (Bold) when it crashed

- I don't see the date(s) in headers in simple header view mode, just the name/subject. I have the header to "Grey" and the body to "None" preferences if that matters.

From my observation, some of the emails do display image, some doesnt. I am thinking perhaps it is all depends on how the email was generated and send?

For example, all the promotion email from Best Buy and Circuit City doesnt display image, it only display link to the web site.

However, email from Ebags and Coach does display images nicely.

I am not sure what is the cause of this.

Linked images in an email (cutting down the size of an email) vs. embedded images in an email (making for large email size) would be the difference I think.

Edit: emails with embedded images that are stripped out by RIM's servers would likely be 'unrecoverable' for the most part with no way to reconstruct it. Broken links on the other hand, can be recovered by the viewer applications. Something like that, I think.

Image Issues

Hello Ani, I may be able to shed some light on the image issues as I have duplicated it many times.

** If I open an email that I have never opened before (the first time), I get the images.
** If I wait 10 or 15 seconds and open it again, the images are gone, only place holders?
** If I reboot and go back into the email, the images are there again.
** If I wait awhile and open it again, the images are gone?

Its like the application thinks the images are in the buffer or something but it doesn't retrieve them on the 2nd or more times that you open the email.

Hope this helps out.

Tony

Thanks onth, tony, low and klotar for pooling in your experiences with image display! I think it depends a lot on how they were sent in the first place itself. Seems that while RIM servers will modify the images that are linked to emails, it will completely strip off the ones that are embedded - so while it *may* be possible to recover linked images, the embedded ones are gone because they were never ever reached the device itself.
