Even funnier that the beta app that is still in the perfecting stages...is clearly claiming better reviews than the released product. That's a shame.

I didn't quite understand that!
Why is it a shame if the beta app is getting better reviews?

If people like the beta app they obviously give better reviews, where is the shame in that?

You guys must be reading a different thread. I have seen a ton of posts about how people are willing to shell out $25 for SmartView over the free one.. how is the beta one getting better reviews?

its funny how money is a big issue here. Unless you have it in writing about empower staying free the dont hold your breathe since SV was free during beta testing too.

Then you missed something
ani and adwiv have said that it shall remain free

anyways that matter is same as comparing a beta with a final

illusions can be dangerous...
yahoo messenger had a similar illusion. gtalk chased it out of park ( though still in beta)

I'm sure both developers will keep working but, for now, Empower seems to be heading in the right direction.

What I meant by my post is that it is funnier still that a beta version of a product that can only get better...is getting more positive reviews than a product that is finished, and apparently is as good as it is going to be...but claims to be a better product (faster, free, non-beta, proven...) than the competitors beta version of their soon-to-be-finished one.

Seems that before I started talking smack about how my product was so much better than a competitors...I would make sure that my finished, even free product was better by far than the product from the other guy.

Does that make any more sense...?

If not...oh, well.

It may be out of Beta but zainy is still working on it. He replies to all reports of bugs and usually gets them sorted out very quickly.

I'd still like to know where you guys are getting the idea that Empower will be "free". Sure, the beta is free. It's *possible* that it will be free but I've seen no mention that the finished product will be free. Most betas have a certain date or amount of time where they will quit working (I don't know if Empower has this or not.) It may not stay free. I've been using both side by side and I actually get more images opened using SmartView than with Empower. I like the small size and quick opening that Empower has but it doesn't actually do the job as well as SmartView. However, they are both great apps and really show a lot of future for HTML mail on the BB.

Just updated Empower to .35 but still issues with displaying large emails as it will jump out to native view and the page down using the space bar functions only for the first page. SmartView handles the large email with no problem and navigation seems to work fine.

Ok, Empower v0.7 released for public beta. So let me see..

Berrysmart v1.0
More than half the functions still don't work even on 4.2 - Attachments? File? Save? Mark Unopened?
Absolutely no integration for older OS 4.0, 4.1 - no use if I can't reply in there.

Empower v0.7
Complete integration.
works on older OS.
and way faster

even though Empower is still in beta

Oh yes, I checked it out..

Reply will work now in v2.0
And Forward will work now in v2.0.. even though he mentions on his website - "Complete Integration" - from the day it was launched !

And still no integration with older OS 4.0, 4.1 ! But proudly mentioned on the site is - "Works on all OS 4.0.2 and above"

I almost lost my $25..

So true someonexh.. if I can have my meal why care about those who are hungry and can't afford a meal..

Sorry someonexh, but I am not that kind of person.

I am on 8800, but not my wife. And not everyone else in this forum. And certainly not every unknowing individual out there in the world who visits his website, and reads Complete Integration with 4.0.x - and ends up buying it only to find later the thing doesn't works as claimed.. Why not be honest and write the facts as it is..

I have Empower in my system but this is not an issue of loyalty. Does one have a special feature that the other does not offer?

Let's assume that the prices were the same

yep, now that Empower gets better and better everyday, their latest release being another fantastic upgrade over 0.7 i am liking it even more. This inspite of the fact that i started with Smartview, but empower speed & simplicity just won me over!

True, price can no longer be a comparison because if mobylo is marketing it, it will not be free with the kind of support mobylo gives! But thats all the more better..

I've been a SmartView user since the initial beta test, but I finally broke down and tried empower. I've also uninstalled it and don't plan on going back.

A few things....

First...I like the overall look and feel of SmartView MUCH better. I think the displayed email is more true to the original email. I sat with my BB and one of my IT buddie's (same model/carier), one with emp, one with sv, in front of my laptop and displayed multiple emails from work...blast email services......personal email.....and while empower was OK, smartview was much more true and accurate to the original email.

And one thing that really bugs me about empower, is that when they first came on the forums, they DID say that their app was free and would stay that way. BBSmart was always upfront that the beta testers would get a free version, but that the app would be for sale.

To each their own....but my vote is for SmartView....and I'm showing it to everyone I see with a BB in their hands. (really, I've been stopping people in the strangest places)

Thank you. I am not questioning the veracity of these individuals but come on now, say at least one nice thing about your competitor and one negative thing about your product. Don't make it so obvious.

I think the moral of this story is that while both companies have good products, one company seemed to have atleast one employee posing as a customer (of both products) and giving rather biased commentary as to which he/she preferred. I've just downloaded Empower and I must say that I'm not impressed (in fact, its disabled as my default viewer). If we want a true HTML viewer for email, I would expect actual HTML not just a colorful overlay that sometimes displays the pictures (although this didn't happen in my brief testing period).

I never tested out eZainny's SmartView (or whatever it's called), but I will say that I respect him a lot more, simply based on this thread.

But in the spirit of bringing better product alternatives to market, by all means keep the competitive spirit alive. Just don't give reviews of your own product while posing as a consumer. Not only is that stupid to do on a forum where your IP addresses are logged, but it's also rather unethetical in the spirit of business. Let your product do the talking not motivated nit-wit employees.

Just to add, the statements about comparing a 'final' version versus a 'beta' version product really plays no role in a start-up development market - ALL PRODUCTS ARE BETA!

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

BBSmart has more functions but functions I probably would not use.
For others, it has the ability to place e-mails in your calendar or task pad.

Otherwise, as a layman, I do not see a big difference. It is my assumption in the end that they will both be close in price.

MY hope is that my post will soon become obsolete as both products improve themselves as 'survivors of the fittest"

Wow, those IP addresses are interesting. Although there is a lot that can be said about that, I won't.

I didn't look at Empower until .91, whereas I did see SmartView early on. But at this point in time, from a layman's point of view, they are roughly similar; they both perform their primary function. Both have exciting plans for the future.
