Default WANTED: link to free GMAIL app for BB7520 - 06-19-2007, 12:18 AM

I would like to download the GMAIL app for my blackberry 7520 onto my PC and install it manually. I am unable at this time to download it directly on the BlackBerry device itself. I am unable to find a link to the app for the BB7520 anywhere on the net that will allow me to download it to my PC.

can someone please help me?

Wirelessly posted (8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I have only seen Gmail provided OTA.

Sorry mate!

Here ya go - not hard to find:

http://gmail.com/app/v1.1.0/L1/gm-Bl...-7520_v4_0.jad
http://gmail.com/app/v1.1.0/L1/gmail-blackberry-g.jar
http://gmail.com/app/v1.1.0/L1/gm_7520_v4_0_L1.cod
http://gmail.com/app/v1.1.0/L1/gm_7520_v4_0_L1-1.cod
http://gmail.com/app/v1.1.0/L1/gm_7520_v4_0_L1-2.cod

You'll need to make your own ALX file if you want to install non-OTA.

8,000,000 thank you's to you for this! You're the only person who actually helped! Thank you! Thank You!

I made the ALX and will install soon. I assume that I just ignore the .jad and .jar as you have already converted them to .cod for me (and others needing this type of install)? Correct?

Thanks again,

blackberry-guy

I have no clue, sorry -- I didn't convert anything, those are direct links from the Google servers that I just exposed by snifing them out. What you see above is what I know... *shrug*

Well, you certainly did the trick! I installed GMAIL with your linked files, thank you! My problem now resides in the fact that I'm using boost mobile and I have an IT policy on my phone. Something isn't working right.. but it's not a problem with the GMAIL app.

For those who don't know how to create an .alx file, here's what you need:

COPY THE BELOW TEXT INTO NOTEPAD (or other text editor):

<loader version="1.0">
<application id="gmail">
<name>gmail</name>
<description>mobile gmail app</description>
<version>v4.0</version>
<vendor>google</vendor>
<copyright>2007</copyright>
<fileset Java="1.0">
<files>
gm_7520_v4_0_L1.cod
gm_7520_v4_0_L1-1.cod
gm_7520_v4_0_L1-2.cod
</files>
</fileset>
</application>
</loader>

SAVE THE ABOVE TEXT INTO THE DIRECTORY WITH THE GMAIL FILES
WITH THE NAME:

gmail.alx

When you use application loader, just select the gmail.alx file and you're all set!

Thanks for all your help, now it's up to me to figure out how to free up my BB 7520 so that I can use GMAIL properly! Hope my .alx file helps other newbies too!

I think you mean 'bundled', not compiled. You are violating Google's terms of service by doing so:

You fall under the camp of "copy" in this section, by copying it into a ZIP and making it available for download in a location other than Google without their permission.

If I was to copy these files into a archive and back it up, I am not violating there services. I did not change there code, only added a file, so that the program sees what to do with Google's files for an offline installer. Saving data usage on your Blackberry plan.

You are 100% correct, but then you derailed and offered it to download for others, which is the violation because you "copied" the data. I'm not going to crap this thread anymore, hit me up in PM if you'd like to argue.
