Default Auto Profile Switcher? - 06-20-2007, 01:12 AM

Hi All,

Are there any apps out there that will switch profiles on a schedule?

For example, say M - F, 8:00 - 5:00, it might use the Vibrate Only profile, then at 5:01 it will switch to Normal, until 12:01 it will switch to Silent; and at 7:59 it'd switch back to Vibe. There might also be a Weekend profile, where one can set the schedule to say, skip the Vibrate profile and stay on Normal during that period, yet still switch to Silent at night.

Nothing fancy such as switching to Vibe during scheduled meetings or anything like that (although it would be nice for other people of course). The scheduler might be able to be overridden at any time but resume schedule on the next event change... that sort of thing.

I guess it'd need to be an app that starts up on bootup, and disables on Close but run in the background on Exit (or vice-versa hehe). Anything out there for BB's?

I wished it would switch into vibe when your schedule says you're busy since that usually means I am in a meeting.

I can certainly see/understand the want and need for an app that will look at the Calendar to put the phone on vibe/silent when scheduled for a meeting, but I could get by with just a time based version (since I want to be on vibe at all times during work hours anyways).

Nothing like this around eh?

Klotar,

I've been looking for something like that (had a program that did that on my PPC) and I've found nothing for the Berry.

I haven't seen anything like that around. I know there are TONS of people who would love to have an app like that though. (Me being one of them).

Implex,

If you need a tester or ideas on how it should work I'll be happy to put my 2 cents it. I was actually going to start hunting for BB developers to custom develop this.

Same here, if testers are needed, this'd be one I'd love to get in on.

It just seems like one of those "how did we get along without it?" apps that would make life so much simpler -- I always forget to turn on vibe in the morning. And then never hear the phone after work because it's still on vibe and I don't carry the phone around the house.

Very cool idea. There are so many cool things to do for the BlackBerry it's hard to focus on just one

Funny, I was trying to find a way to do that with my Pearl the other day. Found out the only thing it can do is you can tell it when to 'turn off' and 'turn on'. I would definitely be interested in a program like this.

Well if you want some ideas of how to do this, check out phoneAlarm / phoneAlarm SP (http://www.pocketmax.net/index.html). It's biggest function is for missed calls / missed messages (which is really nice) but the automatic profile switching was really nice. If my PPC would have supported it, the profile switching based on location (i.e. GPS) would have been very, very cool.

i'd buy as well - been looking for this type of app too. I used Magic Profiles on my Symbian device and really miss it on my berry.

Yeah, that's where I'd heard about profile switchers, it was a Symbian app. Of course, none would work with my E62 S60 3rd, but reading about those older versions made me want to look around for one.

I must admit I was surprised to not find something like that for the BB, it seemed natural that there would be something for a business oriented smartphone.

Any news on this particular type of app? Anyone find something that would meet this need, even partially?

Nothing solid that I've heard, although there are a few people inquiring at pinstack too.

A few developers (I think they are developers) here seemed to indicate they might look at it, but there may be API limitations that I would have no clue on.

I previously was trying out a Nokia 6133, but decided to switch to a blackberry Pearl (thrilled I did!)

But... the Nokia had a really nice feature. When you changed profiles (such as going to Silent Profile), it would allow you to enter a time when it would revert back to the profile it was currently in!

This was great for times when I'd go see a movie, for example. I'm constantly setting my phone to silent when I enter the theater, then realize hours later that I've missed several calls, because my phone was STILL on silent. With the Nokia, just check when the movie ends, and enter that time. Profile goes back to Normal at the selected time.

I realize this isn't exactly what the OP was asking for, but it's along the same lines....
