Interfacing with other third-party apps -
06-27-2007, 08:37 PM
I'm also running Beamberry to view attachments. Would it be possible to interface with Beamberry while viewing messages?

eZainny,
VERRRY nice upgrade. Whereas in the earlier versions, it was a "nice to have" kind of thing, version 2 makes it pretty much a "must have." One thing, though. The new background color chooser is particularly frustrating. I'm a pretty boring guy. I want black text on a white background. I find something that looks like white, but it isn't and then I have to go back into the options and change again. I still haven't found white (I assume it's there?).
The old method was much easier.

Is it possible to reply in os 4.1 devices? I don't really know what you mean by "all the trimmings". If you can maybe I will buy it. Right now I have been using empower which is now working much better, but I would still consider this if it has reply function.

"All the trimmings of the default email program for ALL BlackBerry devices OS >= 4.0.2 (save, mark unopened, previous/next/next unread, delete from server, etc.)"
Check out the trial version Trev. It's real different from the earlier version. I'm sure you'll like it

Does the trial version not activate photos? I wanted to try this out first before purchasing.

Tried it out and loved it...purchased it. Awaiting some more great enhancements to this!
I have one question. My company is on Lotus Notes server and sometimes people do a copy and paste of images into the email. On the BB, there would be a "<image>" indication and I obviously can get the graphics image. Appears that BBSmart can't view this either? Am I correct?

Well, I've been holding out on this and after evaluations of both email viewers I have settled on Smartview. The integration worked very well and speed was quite acceptable. One thing I liked about the "other" viewer was actually a font choice of 'Cursive' and 'Cursive (bold)'. These were very close to the default BB font used on my 8800. If that could be added in a future release that would be great. Also, either I missed it or it's not there but a white background doesn't seem to be on the list. Please add. Thanks.

I agree...Add white background. I notice that the color will say "lemon Chiffon" but when i select another color I just get the colors and no name. I might suggest using the color name for each color instead of "The quick Brown fox...etc." for each color. As a color-blind individual....it helps!

Only if you turn on images. Turn them off, and no, no additional data usage. Personally, I turn images off myself, but that's just because it's not very often that I want to see them anyway.

I am going to either get this application or that other email formatter but was wondering, are you planning on adding formatting for when you create and or reply to emails?
Thanks,

Does the "other" program do that? I can't imagine that would be anything short of a nightmare to program, even if it were technically possible. But maybe I'm wrong.

It's on the drawing board but right now we are working on some other cool things which we believe would be of greater benefit to most people. Adding in that kind of styling to the reply is really just a gimmick sort of thing - we want to build in functional things which make email (and other things for your BB device too) better to use. That's why we put in "Add to Calendar" and "Add as Task" in v2.0. These are functional things which help you out in real practical ways. So far, users seem to really like this functionality

Even if this displays a little nicer or might have a few more frills than "other" email viewers, I am not sure I could justify spending $25 for this when there is something similiar for $0.
Can anyone give me some tips or likes that can help me decide ?

as far as smiley faces it all depends on the client that people read the emails in. Most likely is goign to be outlook so if they have word opening their emails it will auto make ": )" into smiley faces.

This already works -- select "Regular View" from the BBSmart menu. You will see BeamBerry on the RIM e-mail client menu.

Any plans to add PIM integration (calendar, address book, task) for pre-4.2 devices? I currently receive a "no can do" dialog on my 8703e running OS 4.1.0.377.
BTW, this product is absolutely outstanding!!!

I'd also like to be able to access Repligo from the viewer. Right now I have to go back to the classic view to get the option.

Ditto. I think you'll find that there are dramatically more Repligo users than BeamBerry users, so if you're intending on integrating BeamBerry, I would think doing Repligo as well would be a smart move...
...not to mention, I'd love it.

I have to correct myself. I thought more were missing than actually are. You got most of them.
It looks like the only one that's missing is * for the next unread message. The menu says that U will go there, but that's on the 3 which is page up. Not having a key to jump to the next unread message is what's stopped me from buying the application.

Works just fine on my 7130c. I've been running OS 4.2 since before this application was released so I can't comment on functionality on OS 4.1, but you should be able to do everything that the other 4.1 devices can do.

Hi Scud,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to make this font available. The reason is because this isn't a valid HTML font. We can try and find something that looks like it though for the next release
