I think it is possible that my excessive battery drain today (which happened to be the first full day I used BBSmart Email Viewer) was a coincidence. However, considering that it was brought up by another user, I thought I'd ask.

For my part, I am using v2.1. BBSmart is not my default viewer, I only activate it when needed. My connection is via TCP/IP.
Hi 4n6doc,

Just replied in the other thread then
Nobody else has reported this problem yet - not sure what is going on to be honest. It doesn't seem likely that it would be my app - it's not the "always on" type. More investigation needed I think.

Cheers,
eZainny.

Thanks, eZorro! That's what I call super-fast customer service!! I am pleased to do business with a company that does what it does with excellence. I am in the customer service business (automobiles) as well...and I have always chosen to do business with companies that I admire for the way they handle themselves, and your business is A+.

Many thanks for the quick replies. Your response certainly makes sense. I assumed that it might be a coincidence, since I was walking around listening to podcasts on my Blackberry at work all day.

Thanks for an excellent application.

I downloaded the trial version, and I like it more than the Empower viewer so far.

However, I still have an issue with images (with BBSMart, Empower and standard mail viewer) in that they all just show up in the body of the email as [IMAGE] placeholders, and not the picture itself. This happens whatever settings I have tried, and whatever viewer I use. Just this morning I had an email from Amazon with some pictures in...the pictures show just fine in Lotus Notes desktop, but just as a [IMAGE] placeholder on the BB.

Is this a limitation of the BB, some restriction imposed by my BES admin, or is it fixable via a viewer setting? TIA

Hi Keith,

Glad you like the software. If you are on a BES, it is possible this is a restriction imposed by your BES administrator. The way images are loaded in the emails is actually by retrieving them from the Internet - the images themselves don't actually exist in the email, merely links to them. A good test might actually be to simply see if you can use your BlackBerry browser and navigate to sites, etc. This will test whether the BES administrator is blocking connection attempts to the Internet.

At large companies we've been dealing with, some use an internal authenticating proxy for all outbound internet connections. We are working on adding in support for this in an upcoming release if this is the problem.

Otherwise, feel free to email us at [email address] and we can send an email to your BlackBerry containing a set of test images which we know work correctly.

Cheers,
eZainny.

Hi eZainny...thanks for the quick reply!

There is certainly no block on internet access due to the BES...I've been able to access any site I've tried, and images are displayed OK that way, just not via emails.

I'll check with my BES admin to see if there's some policy in place that's stopping this. I'll also send an email to your Support team as you suggest, because it would be interesting to test this. Thanks!

Not a problem. Our support team is always in a eery cat like stance ready to pounce on support emails

Also, we have already successfully deployed our application to a number of companies (some big names include RIM themselves) so please do let us know if this is something your company would be interested in

Cheers,
eZainny.

Thanks eZainny...I've sent an email to the Support team.

I'll also have a word with our BES Admin...I will also drop in a good word for the BBSmart viewer whilst I'm in there!

After talking to the very helpful BBSmart support people it seems like images that are internet-hosted are fine, but embedded images in the body of the email are not. I still would have expected images from people like Amazon to work though, and they don't

I'll see if there is some setting on the BES that can fix this.

Here's a bug I recently noticed. I can scroll with the wheel fine. I can scroll with the keypad fine. I can even scroll with the wheel and then switch to scrolling with the keypad fine. But if I scroll with the keypad and then switch to scrolling with the wheel, it jumps to the last place to which I scrolled with the wheel (so the beginning if I haven't scrolled with the wheel at all). It doesn't matter if I'm scrolling in the same direction or if I switch. The only time this doesn't happen is if I use the 1 to jump to the top or the 7 to jump to the bottom.

Same thing seen here.

I'm fairly new to the crackberry game. I've been holding out for the Curve for quite sometime but with the AT&T exclusive, I bought an unlocked Pearl using my T-Mo plan.

In any event, once AT&T releases its stranglehold on the Curve, I'm going to replace the Pearl.

Will I need to repurchase the BBSmart email viewer again? Great program! I really hated the long hyperlinks in my email. It was just so messy.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Just contact BBSmart (mailto:support@BlackBerrySmart.com) with the new PIN, and they'll generate a new activation key.

Default VCardMaster menu support? - 07-06-2007, 07:44 AM

Any possibility that you could add VCardMaster menu support in future releases?

This would add the "Import iCalendar" menu item. This software allows you to add Outlook calendar invites if your are only a BIS user.

By the way, awesome app!!

I know it probably seems like a while but it has actually been less than 2 weeks since we put out v2.1

Right now we are bunkering down and working on some real big features for our upcoming release. Before that though, we will be putting out a small update in a couple of days if everything works out correctly. A select team of beta testers has actually been using v2.2 for a while now and we are working on incorporating their feedback in.

But yeah, v3 is well underway and we have some really exciting things planned for that.

Cheers,
eZainny.

I found that when I upgraded OS's (I upgraded to .101 myself), a lot of settings went back to default. For instance, I am on Rogers but have a Cingular phone. My APN settings went to the default Cingular settings, I had to refresh my Host Routing Tables (in advanced options -- they looked fine but doing a Menu -> Register Now fixes it). Even though I deleted my vendor file and used a modified alx, I still have my APN settings reset; same as the last time I upgraded my OS.

Give that a shot, let us know how you make out.

I had already set my APN to wap.voicestream.com (T-Mobile) for Opera mini. Support told me to set the APN to the above and then add my T-Mobile APN user name and password. Then set the BBSmart connect to TCP and it did connect doing that. I thought with T-Mobile it would have been a WAP connection with BBSmart Email. We'll see how it goes as I get some HTML emails. What exactly do the host routing tables do?

Default v2.2 Out Now - 07-19-2007, 10:20 AM

Hi All,

Well a little bit later than promised (see my last post above), but v2.2 is finally out now

Again, not a terribly big release in terms of features - we're saving all the big ones up for v3.0! Well, actually, truth be told, they are just a little bit too unstable to push out with this release now anyway

Alright, new features/fixes in this release include:

* Customizable email header colors per email account. We got this request a while ago from a user and I thought it sounded like a great idea but just never found the time to put it in. The purpose of this is so that you can assign a unique header color for every email account that you receive mail on for your BlackBerry. That way, people with many email accounts (I have 5!) can quickly see which account mail was received on without hunting for "Received Using" field. Pretty cool I think

* SmartNotes. SmartNotes are a new way of "tagging" emails with information. Sort of like the "Add as Task" feature I guess but with tighter integration with the original email. Anyway, best to check it out rather than take my word for it Use it for whatever you like

A couple of other small miscellaneous fixes/changes also.

As always, this is now available as a free upgrade (as all our upgrades will be *forever*). If you currently have v2.0 or higher installed, just head to the BBSmart Options screen and select "Check for Updates" from the menu.

As with the previous release, there might be some issue with caching on our webserver again which hosts the install files so it might take a little bit of time to pick it up (so for the next couple of hours it may report itself still as v2.1 even though v2.2 is up). Your patience is appreciated

Cheers,
eZainny.

Hi

New to the Blackberry here
I just downloaded the trial but I don't see anything/any changes.
I downloaded OTA and it installed and that was it. I checked the Application list but it's not there but when I try to download it again, it asks if I want to replace the one I already have...

What do I do? I downloaded it and it installed itself and that's all I did so far.
Thanks for the help

There should be nothing else for you to do. When you open up a message, it should prompt you as to whether you want to view the email with the viewer. If that is not happening, have you recycled your bb?

Hi Albert,

Is it possible you installed the incorrect version for your device? There are two installation files available and which one you use will depend on what Operating System (OS) version your BlackBerry has. If you have a more recent BlackBerry (8100, 8800 or 8300) then you should be installing the OS v4.2 version. You can OTA install this from:

http://www.blackberrysmart.com/trial.../SmartView.jad

Let me know how it goes. Oh and please feel free to follow up with us on our support email if you like: [email address]

Cheers,
eZainny.

Oh actually and while I am here I did want to say a big THANK YOU! to all the beta testers who tested v2.2 for us. Another fantastic job from a group of dedicated people who devote their time & efforts to help out and really, make things better for everyone!

Top job guys/girls. We're all really impressed here at BBSmart with the awesome BlackBerry community that is out there.

Cheers,
eZainny.

While I have to admit that I have only begun to play with the SmartNotes feature (and maybe this is already possible), it would be really neat if the SmartNote could become the name of the Task or the Calender item.

Nice job!

I'll shoot support an email - but I downloaded the correct version. I have the 8830 which is BB 4.2 so that's the version I downloaded.

When I open a message, I never got any type of message so i'm stumped.

Hi djm2,

Not sure if I understand this request correctly...But I'm all for tighter integration where possible Can you provide me with a little bit more information how you would like this to work?

Thanks!

eZainny.

so far I must say I am quite amazed with the updates and new features constanly being added, and I might also add that I really like the attitude of the developer and how he handles issues. Thanks for the dedication and hard work.
