Default Request to eZainny: Task Mgmt Software!

Please Login to Remove!

eZainny, now that you've proven you can write a pretty good app:

Please, please write a Task Mgmt app!

Nothing too complex to start off with:

1. Group by category: Expandable and Collapsable list.
2. Filters: Overdue, this week, undated.
3. Customizable view: Ability to show due date, for instance.

There is NOTHING out there right now.

Thanks in advance

Hi halfempty,

That's very kind of you but there are also many good BB developers out there who I'm sure are already double-timing it on this sort of thing

We're not even half way done with our email viewer either - it's going to be morphing in a very big way into something else as time goes on. We've been getting creative here and adding in some exciting features...I may even put up some screenshots in not long - real big things a coming: Things that we told people couldn't do but actually can (I've had to do this twice now so I think I'll just stop saying things can't be done!).

Plus, we have another app. which is nearing fruition. We've been working away in quiet not telling anyone else about this one - and it's something that people have requested on these very forums before We read these forums here and get ideas. So if you are reading this now and these is some software you would love to see, tell us! We might not announce back that we will do it, but we just might start to do it "in secret"

Also, we've come up with some exciting ideas for future products - things that are real left of center but once you use them you'll be thinking "How did I ever live without this before"...Well, we hope so anyway

Anyway, exciting times ahead. Every time I look at the BlackBerry and software that is available for it, I just can't help but think how much cool stuff is missing that other platforms have. And not just little trinket things either - practical things that people would really want.

And finally, a long time ago I started a puzzle game and got about 60% of the way through. It's sort of playable now, but without the trimmings. I'll sit down one day and finish it, I swear!

Cheers,
eZainny.

BBSmart development process has been awesome. Many items that the developer initially shyed away from are now part of the program.

Any customer service related business should take the mode of under-commit and over-deliver. Exactly what we have seen here.

My hope is that Ezainny and the BBSmart team are knocking out code for a full featured PIM that would cover the Task Management request along with Calendar Management. Coming from the world of PalmOS for ten years (Palm Personal, PalmVx, Sony Clie, Kyocera 7135, Treo 600, Treo 650, Treo 700p) I dearly miss my Agendus, which was one of the two killer PIM programs (the other being Datebk5). The real productive thing that these programs did was link tasks/meetings with contacts so that you could open a task/meeting and jump to and dial/email/sms the contact associated with the task meeting without jumping to the address book, email or sms program.

I really enjoyed being a part of the beta process for BBSmart and would love to participate in the next one.

I agree with mdlissner. We really need a full featured PIM that ties contact with task, calendar, and email. I have been using PalmOS for awhile myself (Palm IIIx, Handspring Prism, Tungsten T|C, Tapwave Zodiac 2, Treo 700p) and I miss Agendus myself.

Never Say Never!!!!

It can happen, it will happen, it may take some time, but I think someone will make a killling if they just come up with a good linking of contacts to tasks/meetings that syncs with outlook properly and gives a half decent view on the Blackberry.

It's coming with PD version 5. Contact linking to tasks and calendar items. Tasks sorted by category (for newer BB's), etc.

See, there you go guys!

I told you another good developer was working on it!

Cheers,
eZainny.

EDIT: Quick question: Is PD5 going to be a free upgrade? And as a developer I know how much you'll hate this question, but...when will it be available?

It will not be true linking, though, because it will not create a history of that activity or have it be synchable to an outside PIM like ACT or Goldmine.

We need a software solution to allow the creation of activities from within the contact view of BB (as well as creation of an activity in the calendar that you can then link to a contact from a drop down list). That activity then has to sync with the PIM for placement on the calendar and in the history.

ACTfor Palm and Agendus do this on Palm- It is my understanding-from CRS- that BB blocks the ability to add this feature.

This is the way true linking of contacts to activities works and PD-5 will not do this.

I am not sure what you mean by true linking. What is needed is the ability to be able to go from ai meeting/task entry to dial, email or SMS the associated contact without leaving PocketDay and going to another application on the device.

If it does that it is a huge win for all BB users.

True linking allows you to place that activity in the contact's history and log the activities forever. It would also allow the activity to show up on the calendar and be synched with a PC based PIM.

If you have only ever used Outlook you will not understand/appreciate the advantages of this.

Sure, being able to put a contact's name in an activity is great but they are not linked it is just a quick way to fill in information- it is not linked to the contact.

I hope I explained that well. Search this topic on the forum and you will see a need/desire for this functionality as well as deeper discussion of the topic.

Thanks for the explanation. Agendus does have this feature in it with its contact history. I barely used it.

Cool, I use it everyday. I am a self employed sales rep with 1820 contacts. I can tell you about every major interaction with each one for the last 10 + years since I have started using ACT. I know all of the major phone conversations and every meeting, quote etc that I have ever had with each person. It is quite a powerful tool to have that information and I would just like to have it on my BB like I had it on my Palm.

I currently can make an appt, note or whatever on the BB but then I have to rewrite it on ACT on the PC later to get it into the contact history and have it show on the calendar (BB and ACT) properly.

It is a major want for me but not for many so I just have to wait till someone develops something.

Thanks,
JP

PD won't have the "true linking" feature. It will require a custom app on the PC as well. You will have the ability to call, email, sms directly from a calendar item, task, etc. You will be able to create a calendar item or a task directly from the contact app as well.

You'll also be able to create a calendar item or task from an email to create followups, etc.

How about this....Does PD synch with ACT through CompanionLink or another 3rd party app?
