Unhappy Battery and performance issue - 09-04-2007, 08:53 AM

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not...

I noticed over the last few days that my battery life was down to a couple of hours, not the normal 2-3 days between charges I had been getting. I originally thought that perhaps my battery was just on the way out, until I noticed that the overall performance of my BB was a bit sluggish.

Prior to this, I would occasionally would see a slight lag whenever the BB was reacquiring its signal or was updating the emails, but it was almost constant now. Just scrolling through emails or the home screen, the pointer would pause between entries.

I hadn't installed anything in a while, so I started going through what was installed. I decided that the only 3rd party software that was probably constantly running was the spell checker and deleted it. After the reboot everything was back to normal, including the battery life.

Keep in mind that I had rebooted the BB a number of times over the last few days prior to the uninstall, including doing a battery and SIM card pull a couple of times, seeing if a reset would solve the problems.

BB: 8700g - v4.2.1.96/2.3.0.79

Bro, you would have better luck if you post this in the 8700 section, this is for a 3rd party program called Empower.

Thx

Bro, since the software that appeared to be causing the problem was the Empower spell checker, this forum was probably a better choice than the 8700 forum...

Anyway, when I get a chance, I am going to try reinstalling the spell checker and see if the problem reoccurs.

Anyone else notice that after you look at a message transcription through the application (not e-mail, but in the app itself), that your trackball clicks disappear for a while?

I have installed and deleted it a few times, and now I cannot re-install. I get the following message: Uncaught exception: net.rim.device.api.system.ControlledAccessExceptio n - any advice? (Other than wipe - my IT guy is probably not speaking to me at this point!).

mk3013 - ControlledAccessException is an exception that occurs if you have an IT Policy that restricts 3rd party apps from accessing PersistentStore. You will need to talk to your IT admin to set this particular policy setting to ALLOW as InstaSpell needs this permission to operate.

Thanks!
Ani.

I ended up having to go back to Verizon today and getting a new one, so I'll try to install again. It installed before, so I don't think it's a policy setting. I think I changed a policy setting myself and messed it up that way or deleted the wrong thing first. Great app! Thanks for the reply.

Angry Problems With Instaspell - 12-02-2008, 07:32 PM

I just installed InstaSpell on my 8830. It deleted ALL of my text messages (over 300) and was working on deleting my e-mails from all of the accounts before I was able to get it stop (doing whatever it was doing). I'm waiting on a reply from the company as to why this happened and how to recover the messages. I'm also trying to contact my service provider for the same assistance, but after the download, my calls continue to drop within the first two minutes (while I'm still on hold waiting for a representative). I'll keep the everyone update with whatever happens, but if you download the software - BEWARE!

InstaSpell has worked without any issues on multiple OS versions (4.2.1.x, 4.2.2.176, 4.2.2.196, 4.5.0.77, and now 4.5.0.101) on my VZW 8830. It appears that your device might have run out of memory, and it began "cleanup" operations. To avoid this in the future, reboot prior to performing an installation if memory is low. Also, you can delete the InstaSpell dictionary after the dictionary has been installed.

visortgw is correct. InstaSpell didn't delete your data. Low memory deleted it. Check out the Optimize your BB's Memory post in my signature.
